The Astronomical Time Switch does not need a light sensor to switch lights on at sunset or off at sunrise and is used mainly for street lights, advertisement hoardings and sign boards. Sunset & sunrise times are generated every day by a micro-controller-based astronomical time switch using astronomic software. Any geographic location (latitude, longitude & time zone) can be programmed. With twilight setting, lights can be switched ON earlier than sunset (for indoor lights) or delayed (for outdoor lights) by 0 to 60 minutes. Similarly switch OFF can be delayed (for indoor lights) or earlier (for outdoor lights). To save electricity some lights can be switched OFF at any set time, and if required can be switched ON again early-morning at any set time. If 2KW of light load is switched off for 6 hours every night, one can save 360 units of electricity every month.
