They are used alone or in combination with other materials find many specialized uses in different fields of ultra high temperature in space age equipments, industries and many other fields. Asbestos is a fibrous mineral. The selected grade of this mineral fibre has remarkable characteristics of resistance to heat, chemicals, acids and alkalies and unusual flexibility with high tensile strength. These properties of the mineral fibre are best used in the manufacture of asbestos textiles. Asbestos withstands up to 450°C temperature without undergoing any physical or chemical change. It loses its water of crystallization when heated beyond 480°C and starts becoming brittle. Heated to about 800°C it loses, in weight, about 14% due to loss of water of crystallization.
