Acidic Fluxes For Welding

Acidic Fluxes For Welding

Super Alloys & Metals is a manufacturer of continuous welding consumables –submerged arc wire and fluxes. Recently it has introduced Acidic Fluxes for submerged arc welding of general purpose structural steels. The Supershield A series of acidic fluxes have basicity between 0.4 and 0.9. There are 3 fluxes in the current range of acidic fluxes, viz., Supershield A2, Supershield A4 and Supershield A5 flux. The fluxes can be used in combination with Carbon Manganese Steel Electrodes conforming to AWS class EL8, EL12 and EM12K. The acidic fluxes are active in behaviour and add manganese and silicon to the weld metal. These fluxes have consistent performance characteristics as regards self-detaching slag with smooth profile and shiny bead finish and freedom from porosity. This has been possible because of proper selection and evaluation of raw materials that go into making of flux. The fluxes can be used for weld metal thickness up to 20 mm. Satisfactory weld metal impact toughness can be obtained up to -18oC and welding speeds can range from 250mm/min to 2500 mm/min depending upon the appropriate selection of wire and flux combination. Some fluxes are specifically designed for tolerating rusty plate surfaces.
