Polyethylene, High Density (HDPE)

High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is a thermoplastic polyolefin manufactured by the polymerisation of ethylene. It is a highly crystalline, no polar thermoplastic. HDPE has an excellent chemical resistance to most household and industrial chemicals, thus HDPE pipes; pipes fittings, valves and tanks are used in storage and transportation of such chemicals. HDPE does not absorb moisture and provide good water vapour barrier, which makes it most suitable for packaging applications. HDPE has good electrical properties, especially its dielectric properties makes it well suited for wire and cable ducting applications. HDPE has easy proccessability by a widely diverse group of fabrication process, viz., injection moulding, blow moulding rotational moulding, compression moulding, extrusion, welding and machining, etc. Thermoplastics have revolutionised the usage of polymers in industries.
