Lapp Innovation Award winners announced

Bangalore, November 2015: Lapp India, a 100% subsidiary of the Lapp Group Germany, a leading supplier of integrated solutions and branded products in the field of cable and connection technology in India, announced the winners of the Lapp Innovation award at a ceremony held in Coimbatore. The award ceremony was presided by Dr Ewald Bentz – Chief Representative of Lapp Holding, Mr Marc Jarrault – MD of Lapp India, Mr V Krishnakumar – Vice President of SIEMA and Dr R Rudramoorthy – Principal of PSG College of Technology. Launched at the occasion of the 10th jubilee celebrations of LAPP India and PSG College of Technology’s partnership, the ‘Lapp Innovation Award’ recognises outstanding industries, which uses Lapp cables and associated products and solutions for developing innovative products, which have a strong impact on sales, productivity improvement, energy savings and sustainable development. Other criteria to assess the winners were the complexity of the applications and the number of Lapp products utilised.

Out of the numerous applications, only the top 3 business cases were selected as per the above mentioned criteria and the respective companies invited to present their innovation at the PSG – Lapp Centre of Excellence in Cable technology in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The jury members consisted of members from PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore and Lapp India.

The winner of the Platinum award was Titan Company Limited for its Robotic High Precision Sensor Assembly Machine for clean room application environment. The award was handed over by Dr Ewald Bentz, Chief Representative of Lapp Holding along with a cash prize of INR 300,000.

The winner of the Gold award was Hirotec India for its Assembly Tooling for automotive industry for Digital I/O and Power applications. The award was handed over by Mr Marc Jarrault, MD of Lapp India and Dr R Rudramoorthy – Principal of PSG College of Technology with cash prize of INR 200,000.

The winner of the Silver award was Tony Engineering for its Soft Flow Fabric Dyeing Machine, which reduces fabric processing time and minimises waste water discharge. The award was handed over by Mr V Krishnakumar, Vice President of SIEMA with cash prize of INR 100,000.

Dr Ewald Bentz Chief Representative of Lapp Holding said, “An event of this nature is an innovation by itself and epitomizes Lapp's vision of encouraging innovation. The origin of the first colour coded cable by Mr Oscar Lapp was also an invention. It is important to foster an environment of innovation within organisations. Any innovation should first be tried out at the local regional level and every effort must be made to scale the same to the global level.”

Also speaking on the occasion, Dr B Vinod, Head of PSG Robotics and Automation Engineering department as well as responsible for Lapp Centre of Excellence at PSG and esteemed jury member – “We were pleased to see the enthusiasm among the industries, and the innovation that they brought in. In today’s world, innovation has become the prime focus among all industries. Lapp Innovation Award is indeed a great platform to recognise and motivate the effort of industries for their innovation in their respective fields”

On receiving the award, Mr Krishnamurthy, Manager – Electric Assembly, Titan Company Ltd commented “We are very happy to have been associated with Lapp cables over the last 15 years. Since our equipment’s use sensors, we chose Lapp cables for its quality, reliability and their strong commitment to on-time delivery.”

Mr Marc Jarrault – MD of Lapp India précised, “For Lapp, Innovation is at the core of our business. The key objective of this award was to recognise those industries who have invested in innovation. We were pleased to see 20 nominations coming from customers across cities in south India such as – Coimbatore, Salem, Bangalore, Hosur, Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Tirupur in the first edition of Lapp Innovation award. This give us an assurance that we will see more participation from industries in the next edition of the innovation awards.”
