It all started in 1972 by Onkar Banerjee (Managing Director, Birdman Chemeng Pvt Ltd), after he got attracted to Swedish make machines in an exhibition in Birmingham and an idea flashed into his mind - why not manufacture these products in India which were till then being imported. 

 

After exploring thorough R&D and substantial time and energy, Birdman Chemeng came out with a hydraulic mechanism which could easily cover a range from 1 T to 150 T (or even more for measuring) load and tension. Ultimately, a user friendly design was developed, prototype unit made and finally patented before going into regular production. 

 

The newly innovated load and tension measuring devices went into production in the brand name of YOTA in 1972. The product was well accepted in the virgin market of India, particularly when a large number of major heavy industries and infrastructure projects were under process of implementation during 1970’s all over the country, under third, fourth and fifth Five Years Plans. Thereafter, Birdman Chemeng never looked back. 

 

Today, YOTA branded load and tension measuring device and testing machines have become the first choice of industry, government undertakings, PSUs including defense organisations due to its high quality and user friendly satisfactory performance and service. 

 

Birdman’s innovative attempts to introduce more import substitute products, continued to yield outstanding success. For the first time in India, Birdman came out with fully indigenously developed transmission line erection tools – such as hydraulic crimping machines, hydraulic cutters, cable tensioning, etc - particularly at a time, when electricity generation and distribution was under top priority of the Government for infrastructure developments all over the country.

 

Soon YOTA transmission line erection tools acquired largest share of the market. With industrial technological boom during mid 90’s, substantial changes were incorporated in design novelty, feature specifications and level of accuracy, as per IS by utilising the latest high accuracy CNC/VMC machines in the manufacturing process. As a result, YOTA machines became the first choice with railways, shipbuilding industries, crane manufacturing units and heavy industries. Birdman is one of the few companies whose testing machine is approved by Research Design Standard Organisation (RDSO) as a quality product for use in railways.

 

Lately, Birdman has introduced handy rechargeable battery-operated wireless load and tension indicator, fully indigenously developed having range above 100 M for use in EOT and long boom crane, for long distance measurement away from accident prone zone, which have well been  accepted in the market, in compliance with ‘Make in India’ slogan. 

 

The most important feature is Birdman’s in-house inspection, testing and calibration facility duly authenticated by RTC (ER), Government of India, which facilitates continued vigilance in maintaining quality. This ensures absolute flawless products from the factory. Birdman is ISO 9001: 2015 accredited, and an approved vendor by RDSO, registered with Government and PSD units, defence organisations. “Customer delight is our most valued asset,” says Onkar Banerjee.
