AI will be in integral part of test & measurement in future: Madhukar Tripathi

Rising consumption of electronic components & products across industrties is expected to led to manifold increase in demand for the test & measurement (T&M) equipment in India. T&M equipment market is poised to grow well in future, says Madhukar Tripathi, Associate Director – Marketing & Business Development, Anritsu India Pvt Ltd, in this exclusive interview with Rakesh Rao.

How is Anritsu serving its customers in India?
Anritsu has been in India market since long time through its channel partners and later direct presence. Anritsu offers a wide range of test and measurement solutions for various technologies such as 3G, 4G, 5G & 6G, short wireless, Bluetooth, WiFi, RF & MW, millimetre Wave and Optical Fiber Communication. Anritsu test solutions are used in research & development, production, field testing by many industries such as mobile handset, mobile chipset, antenna, cable, network equipment manufacturers (NEMs), mobile network operators, internet service providers (ISPs), regulators , IoT, test house/labs, data centre, broadcast, education, automotive , satellite, aerospace, defence, navy and many more.

How is Anritsu helping companies to increase their efficiency and productivity?
Anritsu test and measurement solutions offers a unique value proposition to end user by very easy to use graphical user interface (GUI), meeting industry standard /specification, flexible, scalable option to meet future need. Easy GUI ensures learning curve is very short for instrument usage. All instruments are equipped with USB and Ethernet interface for automation. This is very useful in production and R&D environment.

SEEK- Network Master Pro MT1000A uses unique GUI known as Scenario Environment Editor Kit (SEEK) which makes less skilled worker to use 10G/100G/400G Ethernet testing without knowing more details of network or instrument. Any skilled team member can program instrument, create a short cut button at instrument and instrument is ready to use with out issue. Test sequence, test results format, pass fail judgment etc are defined in SEEK and this saves time in measurement and improves productivity.

Similarly Access Master MT9085x series OTDR have Fiber Visualizer™ which provides network information in image format, very easy to understand network connection, network element, loss, fault location etc.

What factors/industries are contributing to the growth of the test & measurement (T&M) equipment in India?
India market is growing and poised to grow well in future. Various central and state government initiatives - based on Make In India, Design & Development in India concept - are enabling industry growth. Many electronic clusters are being set up to promote Indian companies. State incentives have seen big success. Performance linked incentives (PLI) have seen good results and many consumer electronics and automotive  companies are taking lead in production and have reached to Rs 34.01 billion as on May 31, 2024 for all sectors.
Recent announcement by the government for reimbursement of testing charges for startups will help start ups and save capital.

As per GSMA, India is on its way to becoming the second-largest smartphone market globally by 2025 with around 1 billion installed devices and is expected to have 920 million unique mobile subscribers by 2025 which will include 88 million 5G connections. These are positive sign for growth of T&M industry. Defence industry has also reached new heights under Make in India (Atmanirbhar Bharat) initiative. India is among the top five military spenders and one of the emerging defence manufacturing hubs in the world. To support the growth of the defence sector and enhance manufacturing capacity in the sector, two Defence Industrial Corridors are being set up in India - one each in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

With the auto industry undergoing transformation (such as EVs, increasing use of electronics, etc), how is it leading to changes in the requirement of T&M equipment?
India’s electrical vehicle (EV) market is expected to expand at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 45.5 per cent between 2022-2030, with the segment’s volumes set to cross annual sales of 16 million units by 2030. EV has increased demand of T&M in automotive sector. General purpose (GP) and EV specific T&M have witnessed significant growth worldwide. Consumers have accepted connected car feature very well and EVs will add to the growth of electronics segment in automotive industry.

Which non-auto sectors are emerging as the key demand drivers for T&M equipment?
Aerospace, defence, education, telecom (5G & 6G), power (utility) , EV automotive , telecom system integration etc are emerging areas for T&M sector.

What is the effect of digitalisation and automation on the T&M equipment industry?
Digitalisation and automation have simplified T&M usage.

What are some of the emerging trends to watch out for in the T&M equipment industry?
Artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), hyperscale data centres, digital transformation , 6G R&D, EV, non-terrestrial network (NTN), Red Cap, etc are few emerging trends worldwide which will need new type of T&M.

5G is being deployed in more countries and now its time for 5G monetization along with creating more use cases. 5G Advanced & Red Cap (5G reduce capability) are new tech trends getting momentum worldwide. NTN is hot topic now and will be emerging in days to come.

Future T&M will be more software based, supporting cloud, remote operation support. AI will be in integral part of T&M in future.

How do you plan to take forward the growth of Anritsu in India?
Anritsu India is committed to support Indian customers by increasing sales, technical support team. We also recruit in R&D division and has been expanding our reach with new channel partners across India. Anritsu India has been ramping up repair and calibration facility in India every year.
