Norbar is the world's leading torque specialist with one of the most modern and largest factories devoted exclusively to the design, development and production of torque tightening and measuring equipment. Excerpts from an IPF eInterview with Mr Narendra Borse, Managing Director, Norbar Torque Tools India Pvt Ltd.

Norbar Torque Tools are renowned globally. What is the USP that makes them different?

Norbar Torque Tools is in business of torque products for more than 70 years now. Globally, the brand "Norbar" is known for its quality and innovation.

What is the product range that is on offer?

Norbar offers torque products of torque value ranging from 0.3 Nm up to 300,000 Nm. The product range includes torque wrenches, hand torque and pneumatic torque multipliers, hydraulic torque wrenches, electric torque wrenches, torque measuring and torque calibration equipment, torque transducers and so on.

What are the applications and which industry segments are you aiming it at?

For every application where torque control is necessary - we cater to every industry segment. Since product requirements of each industry segment can be different, we have categorised the industries as per segment like oil & gas industry, power generation industry, transportation industry, mining & refining industry. It has helped us to focus on each segment differently, and add value to our product and service offerings.

What is the nature of the company's operations in India?

Norbar India was established on 1st January 2012 at Navi Mumbai. The objective in setting up the operations in India was to provide good technical support and services to customers in India. Norbar India has set up warehouse, service workshop and calibration laboratory at Navi Mumbai.

Is there any plan for manufacturing Norbar products in India?

There is no plan for manufacturing Norbar products in India.

How strong or effective is the after sales service?

The after sales service is very important, and Norbar India has appointed dealers all over India. These dealers are provided necessary training and support. Also, we have appointed Sales & Application Engineers at every industrial city across India. This ensures good technical support and after sales service to our customers.

How does the cost of ownership over the life cycle compare with competition?

The cost of ownership is very less over the life cycle due to quality of product and availability of local repair & calibration services directly from Norbar India.

What are the company's achievements?

Norbar India has been operational for just over 18 months now. We have been successful in establishing our exclusive dealer network across India. Good customer service is our main objective, and all at Norbar India are committed to provide the same. We have established our Logistics such that customer is able to get the material available in stock within 48 hours. Our delivery reliability has been above 90% and we intend to make it above 95% within next 6 to 8 months.

There has been no complaint related to quality of our products. And we are equipped to address every requirement of market through our dedicated sales and service team.

How is the present business environment? The present business environment may not be suitable for established organisations. However, it is helping us to establish firmly in Indian market. We are able to focus on establishing efficient business processes during this time. Also conduct several training programs not only for our engineers but also for our customers. No business environment is static and we are utilising this time to update ourselves and get ready for the future.

What are the future plans?

At present, we have Service & Calibration facility only at our office in Navi Mumbai. Within next 6 months, we are establishing our Service & Calibration facilities at Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad and Delhi. This will reduce the lead time for repair and calibration due to availability of local service and calibration facility for our customers.

We are investing in state-of-art Torque Transducer calibration facility up to 6780 Nm at our Navi Mumbai office. This calibration facility is being setup in line with our global business objective.
