Weldor is a multi-division multi-products company. What are the different types of activities the company is engaged in?

Weldor Engineering Pvt Ltd is a multi-divisional and multi-product company, with three divisions - Mechanical Machines, Hydraulic Machines and CNC Machines - working together for the continuous progress of the company. The company has a wide range of products manufactured in these three divisions. These include mechanical press brakes, under crank shearing machines, over crank shearing machines and power presses manufactured in Mechanical Division; and hydraulic press brakes, hydraulic shearing machines, hydraulic iron workers, hydraulic presses and hydraulic plate bending machines manufactured in Hydraulic Division. The CNC division manufactures the above all machines in CNC/NC versions and the CNC turret punch presses.

What are the applications?

These products have wide applications, and a few could be mentioned for reference: heavy fabrication units; bus body builders; tipper body builders; transmission tower manufacturers; steel furniture manufacturers; electric control panel manufacturers; cable tray manufacturers; textile machine manufacturers; steel traders, etc.

Weldor machines are capital equipment and the quality of these machines will finally decide the quality of the final product of the customer. Also, the reasonable rates, as compared to the competition, are what make customers opt for Weldor machines. The company is enjoying a reputation as standard machine tools manufacturer with quality machines since last 40 years and has to its credit more than 4800 machines supplied over this period.

What are the recent developments here?

Apart from the above-mentioned machines, the company has started manufacturing of perforated screens in heavy thickness which very few companies are doing. The hydraulic press and plate bending machines having capacity of 1,600 tonnes having bed length of 6300 mm is the recent development and which will be proved to be a milestone in the history of the company. Also, the 1000-tonne SMC hydraulic press and 3200 x 60 mm (MS) hydraulic plate bending machine for BHEL ancillary proves the capability and credibility of the company.

What is the long term perspective?

The company is planning to develop an entire range of products for the sheet metal forming industry. Furthermore, it is manufacturing CNC turret punch presses as well as undertaking reconditioning of similar machines imported from Japan and other countries, making them ready for installation.

Are all these products manufactured in-house or is there any assembly/imported component?

The company manufactures all products at own premises with the latest plant facilities, which is a matter of great pride for us. In some machines we are using imported CNC controllers, motors, drives, hydraulic motors, gearboxes, etc.

What are the company's achievements?

Apart from manufacturing a special purpose import substitute box-folding machine for BHEL, the company has received Best Design of the Year award in IMTEX-2004 for its new development of CNC turret punch press. We have manufactured a shearing machine to cut 32 mm (MS) plate, which is an extraordinary achievement in itself. Then there is the 1600-tonne hydraulic press with bed length of 6300 mm and plate bending machine of capacity 3200 x 60 mm (MS), among the many achievements of the company.

Any breakthrough product launch that made a difference?

There are many, beginning with the introduction of mechanical press brake and shearing machines to CNC versions to hydraulic presses of very heavy capacity to big capacity plate bending machines and shearing machines that has made a big difference. The press brake and shearing machine of 6000 mm length specially designed for the tipper body builders is also one of the products launched by Weldor and that has put us far ahead of competition. Also, the introduction of hydraulic version in press brakes and shearing machines in 1985/86 boosted the company's progress drastically.

How strong/effective is the after sales service?

The company has supplied machines all over India from the southern parts of Kerala to Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir. Apart from Indian market the machines are exported to many countries all over the world. Even after such a wide spread of machines the company manages after sales from the head office in Rajkot, with other arrangements across India.

How is the present business environment?

The current business environment is a bit tricky at the moment as the worldwide stock exchanges indicate a slow down and downfall while in Indian industry there is steady market, which is also reflected in the machine tools industry. Even though, utter care must be taken before going for any ambitious decision.

What are the future plans?

We are planning to increase production to triple the present capacity to take maximum advantage of the growing scenario after recession. Also the export market is growing very rapidly as most of the countries prefer Indian machines as compared to Chinese.
