Vector Indojanix (P) Lt\d is engaged in manufacturing and marketing and servicing of power electronic products for the past 21 years. The group is the national distributor of ARTronic brand UPS systems from Europe (AEG Group, Germany) in India. Dr Geetha Premkumar, the sole Proprietor of Indojanix Systems, and a Director in Vector Indojanix (P) Ltd, is a successful first generation entrepreneur with several achievements to her credit. She has been awarded the State and district level Best Women Entrepreneur awards by the Tamilnadu Government; the Best Women Entrepreneur Award for Excellence among SAARC Nations for the year 2010; and the 2011 - FICCI- FLO Business Achievement Award. Dr Geetha Premkumar responded to the IPF Questionnaire about the company's products and services. Excerpts:

What is the product range of the company?

The Vector Indojanix product range comprises online UPS systems, single and three phase air and oil cooled servo stabilisers, inverters, and automatic power factor controllers.

What are the different UPS systems that you offer? What are the specialised applications?

We offer both indigenous IGBT UPS systems and imported DSP UPS systems. In India, we are the national distributors of ARTronic brand of UPS systems manufactured in Turkey.

Apart from indigenously manufactured UPS systems, you also offer an imported range - what is the difference?

The indigenous UPS range has its own features but also comes with some limitations. To list a few, these are normally suggested for computer applications, machinery loads used in various industries and also for the equipments, which have more surge current. However, the size of machines is not compact in nature, and as the capacity goes up, the dimensions too vary and obviously occupy more space. The power factor will be more than 0.8, and hence power consumption will be more compared to DSP-based UPS systems.

DSP UPS systems, on the other hand, are also suggested for computer applications. Wherever the load is critical and redundancy is a must, DSP machines are suggested. Static bypass is a feature, which is available only in DSP imported machines and not in indigenous machines. DSP machines have communication interface, which enables monitoring through software. Apart from this, DSP machines generate accurate sine wave, which is required for medical equipment where the output waveform is a matter of concern. Indigenous machines are also sine wave machines, but tend to face distortions, when load is increased (not on all occasions).

Other advantages of DSP UPS systems are: these occupy less space due to aesthetic design structure hence even higher capacity machines can be kept in a limited space. This turns to be an advantage in commercial places where even one sq.ft of space costs a lot of money. Secondly, the power factor will be more than 0.98, which reduces the consumption of power.

Power quality problems occur regardless of power shortages. How effective are UPS systems vis-?-vis other solutions for power quality management?

Power quality management has become a major issue in today's scenario. UPS takes care of the problem of power cuts. In most of the places, especially in Tamilnadu, voltage problem is become unmanageable. The incoming EB voltage is very low and gadgets do not function. Servo stabilizers are the only solution for this problem. Apart from this, APFC panels are also supplied to improve the power factor in industries.

There is a huge unorganised segment in UPS systems, besides the reputed global solutions providers. Where does the company figure in this ranking?

Our company also falls under the MSME category. When most of the MSME units in power electronics field work in an unorganised way, in our organisation, a high level professionalism is practised. Thanks to the promoters' expertise and years of corporate experience, Vector Indojanix is an ISO 2008 certified company and also works consciously with social responsibility.

What is the USP of Vector Indojanix UPS systems?

All UPS systems sold in India fall broadly under two categories: indigenous UPS systems and imported DSP technology machines. All our products are at par with any leading global brand.

But we differ in the way we offer solutions to our clients. We do not do mere box sale, but follow a totally solutions oriented approach. The USP of Vector is "Think Globally, Act Locally".

How strong/effective is the after sales service?

As I referred to the above, we have the best product at par with any big company in power electronics field. Our after sales service is so prompt and so effective that our customer retention is close to 93%. Clients stay with us for a longer period as they feel they get the value service for the money they pay. I am proud to say that I am accessible to my clients round the clock for any major problems.

Any breakthrough product launch that made a difference?

We have launched APFC panels for welding applications. When panels, which are available to work effectively with non welding applications, we have them work for welding applications too. Apart from this, we have provided power solutions to different industries - a real cross section of clients - which goes beyond the IT segment.
