Tamil Nadu gears up for Global Investors Meet 2024, focuses innovation, job creation

In preparation for the upcoming Global Investors Meet (GIM) scheduled to take place in Chennai in January 2024, Tamil Nadu has set its sights on more than just attracting investments. The state is determined to foster job creation and establish itself as a prominent knowledge hub.

Following a visit to three Centres of Excellence established by the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (TIDCO), in partnership with renowned global OEMs such as Dassault Systèmes, Siemens, and GE Aerospace, Minister for Industries, Investment Promotion, and Commerce, TRB Rajaa, emphasised that the GIM would celebrate knowledge and bring together brilliant minds from around the world.

The Minister underscored that the primary focus would be on generating high-paying job opportunities, promoting patents, and nurturing human capital.

These three Centers of Excellence host innovative enterprises specialising in product design, simulation, rapid prototyping, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and additive manufacturing, among other cutting-edge technologies.

Launched in June 2022, the Tamil Nadu Centre of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing (TANCAM) was established by TIDCO in collaboration with Dassault Systèmes at a cost of Rs 2.12 billion, with Rs 1.82 billion contribution from the latter. This centre has actively provided design solutions to 54 companies.

In November 2022, the Tamil Nadu Smart and Advanced Manufacturing (TANSAM) was inaugurated, established by TIDCO in partnership with Siemens, at a cost of Rs 251.54 crore, with a Rs 211.54 crore contribution from Siemens. Discussions are on-going with Flextronics Bangalore to initiate a Debugging and Service Engineer placement program at TANSAM under CSR, along with plans for Flex to set up a hands-on lab in TANSAM.

Adroitts, a US-based IT company, has engaged TANSAM for a cyber-security placement program to meet their resource needs. Additionally, the Highways Department has enlisted TANSAM to develop and deploy an AI-based PCU calculation model at multiple sites.

In November 2022, the Tamil Nadu Advanced Manufacturing Centre of Excellence (TAMCOE) was inaugurated, established by TIDCO in collaboration with GE Aerospace at a cost of Rs 141.26 crore, with a Rs 57.8 crore contribution from GE Aerospace.

During the event, three startups signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with TANCAM:

1. Trichy Aerospace signed the first MoU, focusing on the design and development of electric boats for fishing, tourism, and water sports. TANCAM will provide design and simulation support for product development in this venture.

2. KHAY-ZEN India signed the second MoU, aimed at developing an advanced bio-digester (Solid Waste management) for the conversion of organic carbon composites from organic waste. TANCAM has assigned a dedicated team for research and development to prepare the project for market readiness.

3. The third MoU was signed by Kalam Technology Centre, for which TANCAM will innovate unmanned ground vehicles for defence and enterprises, pioneering localised autonomous navigation mapping capabilities.

TANSAM also signed a MoU with Velammal Institution and KSRIET Institute, primarily focusing on providing support for skill training, research, and development.
