TACC Limited, an LNJ Bhilwara Group company and wholly owned
subsidiary of HEG Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with
the Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials (I-FIM) at the National
University of Singapore (NUS) to collaborate in advanced materials science,
nanotechnology, and related fields.
The collaboration reflects a shared vision between academia
and industry to accelerate the development, validation, and commercialisation
of next-generation advanced materials, including graphene and other functional
nanomaterials.
The MoU establishes a framework for long-term cooperation
between TACC and NUS I-FIM, combining TACC’s industrial and commercial
capabilities with NUS’ globally recognised scientific research expertise.
The MoU aims to foster research and innovation in advanced
functional materials and graphene technologies, translate laboratory research
into real-world industrial applications, and drive development, testing,
validation, and commercialisation of new technologies. It seeks to accelerate
technology readiness levels (TRLs) via applied R&D and pilot projects,
explore commercialisation pathways such as licensing, startups, and joint
ventures, develop talent through researcher exchange and industry training, build
a cross-border innovation bridge between Singapore and India, and leverage AI
and laboratory automation in creating novel advanced materials.
Ankur Khaitan, MD
& CEO, TACC Limited, said, “Carbon-based advanced materials are
redefining industries, and TACC sits at the intersection. Our MoU with NUS is a
deliberate step to accelerate technology maturity, create tangible commercial
pathways, and strengthen the Indian innovation ecosystem by uniting world-class
research with industrial-scale ambition.”
Professor Sir Konstantin Novoselov, Director of NUS I-FIM
and Nobel laureate for the discovery of graphene, added, “Graphene's potential
has never been in question, but integrating it into real-world applications has
been challenging. This partnership combines NUS’ scientific depth with a
company that understands industrial-scale manufacturing. Collaboration between
academia and industry is essential to translate research into scalable
technologies.”
The partnership comes as advanced materials like graphene
gain global importance across energy storage, electronics, thermal management,
coatings, infrastructure, mobility, and industrial manufacturing.
By combining scientific innovation with industrial scalability,
the collaboration aims to develop commercially viable graphene and advanced
material applications for future global industries.
Himadri plans Rs 2.4 bn in capex for a 200 MTPA CNT unit and a 6,000 MTPA super-speciality carbon black project, alongside new battery material capacities.
