Salvagnini Italia recently hosted Doors&Frames, a two-day international event that brought together around 100 senior executives and managers from the doors and frames industry, representing more than 20 countries. The programme was designed to examine the market forces reshaping the sector and to share expert perspectives on investment priorities and automation strategies.

Discussions focused on the key challenges influencing decision-making across the industry, including high product mix and batch variability, compressed lead times, rising quality and traceability requirements, shortages of specialised skills, and the ongoing pressure to protect margins and operational efficiency. Participants were also given insights into Salvagnini’s proprietary solutions aimed at improving robustness and manageability across the entire manufacturing flow, from planning to material handling and assembly.

Live demonstrations in a production environment translated these themes into practical applications. Three flexible manufacturing system (FMS) configurations were showcased, dedicated to door production, frame production, and combined door-and-frame manufacturing. Designed to manage high mix and variable batch sizes, the systems ensure process continuity through integrated feeding and handling, synchronised operations, and coordinated control of each production step.

The demonstrations highlighted how the integration of technologies and software supports fast changeovers, operational stability, repeatability and reduced non-productive time. They also underlined a modular approach to automation, enabling manufacturers to begin with targeted process steps and scale up rapidly as volumes, complexity and automation objectives evolve.

The event reaffirmed Salvagnini’s focus on practical innovation and close collaboration with customers, positioning the effective management of manufacturing complexity as a source of competitive advantage.
