Rectifiers & Electronics, popularly known as 'RE', is the pioneer organisation in the field of high voltage testing equipment such as AC/DC high voltage test sets and other electrical high voltage test equipment in India. In the last 33 years, through continuous aspirations, 'RE' has earned the goodwill of quality control engineers and research scientists through out the country. Mr Manish Arora, Director, talks to Industrial Products Finder about the company, its product portfolio and future plans. Excerpts:

What are the products that you offer?

Rectifiers & Electronics manufactures electrical testing equipment. The product range includes AC high voltage test sets up to 800 kV, 2000 kVA capacity; DC high voltage test sets up to 500 kV and up to 1000 mA; automatic oil test sets; static/electronic insulation resistance meters (Meggers); kilovolt meter (voltage divider); primary current injection test sets up to 25000 A; AC HV spark tester; continuously variable auto transformers (single/three phase); secondary current injection test set (relay test set); heat cycle test set; DC portable high voltage test set; rectifier transformer; oil di-electric test set; induced over voltage power frequency test set; and milli volt drop test set.

What are the applications?

Our products are used by a number of electrical laboratories both in private and public domain for testing and calibration purposes. We manufacture specialised electrical testing equipment for cables, power distributors, transformers, hydro and thermal power houses, electricity servicing stations, transmission lines, panel manufacturers for electroplating and anodising industries, etc., for testing as per national and international specifications.

How strong/effective is the after sales service?

'RE' has well trained service engineers to look after the commissioning, demonstration and servicing of our product range required during the guarantee period and after guarantee period.

How does the cost of ownership over the life cycle compare with competition?

The testing equipments are used to check the designs and for R&D purposes and as such the cost of ownership does not matter much. Moreover, leveraging our long experience, we have developed technology to manufacture specially designed testing equipment to suit the specific requirements of various laboratories for specific applications. With the change of technology we upgrade the supplied equipment to our customer to match with the latest technology with nominal upgradation cost, which gives us an edge over our competitors.

What is the company's history?

'RE' was established in 1970 with a mission to cater to the manufacturers of northern India with cutting edge technology in the field of electrical testing. But soon the company started playing a vital role in development of the industry of the entire nation. 'RE' has been a leading exporter of electrical testing equipments to countries like United Kingdom, Germany, Zambia, Kenya, Dubai, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, etc.

What are the company's achievements?

'RE' is the only manufacturer in the country for AC high voltage testing equipment up to 800 kV at 2000 kVA, primary current injection test set up to 25000 A, 500 kVA, induced over voltage test set up to 10 MW, 200 Hz, DC high voltage test set 300 kV 100 mA, rectifier sets up to 12000 A, 1000 kV.

Any breakthrough product launch that made a difference?

'RE' has recently procured orders from BHEL against the stiff international competition for high voltage test sets up to 500 kV, 11 kV 3-phase, 2 MVA and 10 MVA motor generator sets (import substitution).

We have supplied PLC-based high voltage test systems, PLC-based control panel and transformer testing equipment to prestigious number of laboratories both in the country and in foreign markets. The company has manufactured the above products with sense of pride, which has made a difference with the competitors proving our competence to do import substitution with indigenous technology.

How is the present business environment?

The present business environment is very good because demand for electrical power is increasing by the day. We all know that one of the parameters of measuring governance is the growth of power sector and as such the government plans to invest huge capital resources in the power generation in next successive five years plans. 'RE' has no problem with the business and the results are quite encouraging. There is also a lot of demand from the foreign market for our products.

What are the future plans?

The demand of the electrical power is increasing day by day both in its generation and utilisation. A number of electrical manufacturing units are coming to match the demand of electrical equipment. The equipment has to be manufactured as per the national and international specifications because of safety requirements. As such the demand of electrical equipment has increased manifold.

There is lot of potential for testing and calibration equipment both in domestic and export market. 'RE' will keep on developing new products in the family testing and calibrating equipment. There is a lot of potential to upgrade the present testing equipment like induced over voltage, serious resonating high voltage, impulse test set and Tesla coils to match the latest technology. We plan to double capacity in the next two years.
