Mechanised sweeping: An economical option

What corporates should know about mechanising of sweeping operations I terms of saving costs and enhancing efficiency.

Corporates have a responsibility of providing cleaner environment and work place as a basic amenity and as a basic health need.

There are only two avenues in maintaining a clean facility. Using labour or mechanisation of cleaning or sweeping operations.

With the current scenario where labourers are scarce and expensive, mechanisation is assertively a better proposition, which not only brings in economy but also caters to cleanliness needs precisely.

Selecting a sweeping machine

A sweeping machine essentially should be capable of catering to complex situations like sweeping minute dust, litter, debris and pebbles from smooth surface as well as rough surfaces without emitting any dust during the sweeping operation. The machine should be capable of sweeping a width of 1 to 1.25 metres in a stretch and should have an arrangement of around 100 kg to 200 kg garbage collection. These machines necessarily should have a higher ground clearance in order to be manoeuvred on speed breakers on Indian road conditions. The machine has to be adaptable to Indian diverse conditions of roads with minimal maintenance. On the financial front, any machine should give a RoI of less than one year.

How mechanisation pays back in a short time

The simple equation in today’s advanced context of mechanisation is 4 paise per square metre as against 12 paise per square metre when manual labour is deployed for the same sweeping operation on an annual basis. This denotes a decent saving of approximately 70% of the expenses on this account. Thus, the machine cost has to be recovered within a time frame of maximum one year.

Advantages of mechanisation

Besides the whopping savings in revenue outgo, it is the dustless, uniform and unhindered cleanliness which pays back off mechanisation. Mechanisation is also an answer to the usual human drawbacks such as non availability of labourers for sweeping jobs, absenteeism, inefficiency, dissatisfaction, mishandling of peripherals, labour unions, etc.

It is against this backdrop that Alano Motors Pvt Ltd was incorporated in 2008 with a small but strong team of uniformly trained young professionals from automotive backgrounds. The team is led by two directors with vast experience in the field of customer care, quality, product and marketing. Alano is India’s first machine to offer sweeping cost less than manual labour and offers the following major benefits:

*Uniform and superior sweeping performance across the facility without dust emission

*Indian machine, hence easy availability of spares & service

*Simple design leading to lowest cost operations and maintenance

*Lowest initial investment and total cost less than labour on a per sq.mtr basis, and

*Can pick up dust, debris and pebbles simultaneously.

As a multi-utility ride on sweeping machine, Alano can be engaged to perform a number of functions within a facility such as:

*Sweeping of roads, foot paths and common areas

*Waste management or material handling using a trailer to carry up to 700 kg of load

*Using a bucket or fork to carry 200 kg of load, and

*Due to high ground clearance and design of the machine it can travel on any terrain and climb pavements or ramps.
