LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA 2015

Increased exhibition space thanks to new entrants

The word 'photonics' is derived from the Greek word "photos" meaning light; it appeared in the late 1960s to describe a research field whose goal was to use light to perform functions, that traditionally fell within the typical domain of electronics, such as telecommunications, information processing, etc.

According to the US National Centre for Optics and Photonics Education, Photonics is the technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. Photonics involves cutting-edge uses of lasers, optics, fibre-optics, and electro-optical devices in numerous and diverse fields of technology - alternate energy, manufacturing, health care, telecommunication, environmental monitoring, homeland security, aerospace, solid state lighting, and many others.

The Wikipedia entry explains it thus: Photonics science includes the generation, emission, transmission, modulation, signal processing, switching, amplification, and detection/sensing of light. Though covering all light's technical applications over the whole spectrum, most photonic applications are in the range of visible and near-infrared light. The term photonics developed as an outgrowth of the first practical semiconductor light emitters invented in the early 1960s and optical fibres developed in the 1970s.

LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA (LWPI) is India's only laser and photonics gathering. Demand for industrial laser and optical systems is increasing, presenting the photonics industry with a great deal of potential. The trade fair proves to be an integral part of Indian laser industry and an important gateway for the growth and use of lasers and optoelectronics in production for various industry sectors.

This year, the trade fair will be hosted in New Delhi from September 9-11, 2015 at Pragati Maidan and co-located with India's No.1 electronics hardware shows electronica India and productronica India. The co-location will benefit both the exhibitors and visitors.

New Delhi - India's capital city - houses decision makers and top government officials and is a strategic location for visitors from nearby states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand that is now the hub of Special Economic Zones (SEZs), apart from industry segments like automotive, electrical parts, automotive components manufacturing, engineering goods and more.

LWPI - India's one of a kind trade fair for the laser and photonics community, was a huge success in 2014 as it saw participation from many of the industry's key players. Demand for the use of lasers continues to show growth in various sectors like automobile, semiconductors, diamonds, and healthcare, etc., leading to a phenomenal response in the 5th edition. The participation in 2015 edition of LWPI, compared to the previous edition, has grown by 30% and to accommodate more exhibits, a new hall has been added. The fully sold-out trade fair will mean more exhibitors and more technology showcase at the 2015 edition. This is also beneficial for the visitors as they can witness the latest in Lasers and Photonics under one roof.

"New technologies are means to innovate and develop products and solutions at a much rapid pace. Today many of the industrial verticals require precision and quick turnaround of their process. Last edition had seen huge enthusiasm among manufacturing industry as well as research institutes. LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA has been successful to establish itself as a platform to connect the buyers and sellers, also a to network and exchange ideas with the experts in this industry," said Bhupinder Singh, CMO and Member of the Management Board, MMI India.

LWPI 2015 has receiving overwhelming response, with more than 100 exhibitors across the globe as on date with country pavilions from China, Germany, Japan, Lithuania and UK. Some of the key exhibitors participating at this year are Angel India CAD CAM, Advanced Photonics, Amada Miyachi, Mehta CAD CAM, Carl Zeiss, EO Technics, Gurukrupa Lasers, Hans Laser, Laserline GmbH, Laser Science, Mahr Technology, Scantech Laser, Swastik Lasers, Sahajanad Laser Technology, TRUMPF and Toptica to name a few. As in past the trade fair is also supported by Government of India: Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DEITY) and leading industry associations like Indian Laser Association (ILA), Optical Society of India (OSI), The Optical Society (OSA), International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI).

Not just a trade fair, LWPI will also witness many accompanying programs held concurrently like International Conference on "Application of Lasers in Manufacturing 2015" (CALM 2015) organised by International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), short courses offered by the Optical Society (OSA) and conference on "Smart Automation for SMEs" with Automation Industry Association (AIA).

The organiser of the show, Messe M?nchen International (MMI), as part of its international strategy, founded its own affiliated company in India with a registered office in Mumbai, in September 2007. MMI India Pvt Ltd has been founded to provide Messe M?nchen with timely and competent organisational support for its increasing involvement in India.

At the global level, MMI has staged LASER World of PHOTONICS every two years since 1973. The World of Photonics Congress takes place in parallel, the largest Photonics Congress in Europe with the active involvement of the world's leading organisations.

A spin-off event, LASER World of PHOTONICS China, is the leading regional trade show for optical technologies in China. It takes place in Shanghai every year, in spring. The LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA takes place since 2012 every year and is a regional trade fair for optical technologies in India.
