CPX with even more functions, from motion control to open and closed-loop control

CPX, the electrical terminal for valve terminals from Festo, is the synonym for automation in the 21st century. Over 10,000 systems installed worldwide speak for themselves. All are highly modular and flexible, making it possible to integrate many functions including motion, safety or diagnostics - for both factory applications and process automation. The electrical terminal CPX fits all standard fieldbus and Ethernet systems as well as in-house installation standards. Three available installation concepts - centralised, decentralised and hybrid - reduce cycle times by up to 30 % and air consumption by up to 50 %. Extensive function integration - pneumatic, electrical and motion - reduces system costs by up to 20% and installation time by up to 60%.

Control Electric Axes

Special technology modules are integrated into the CPX system for the functions Motion Control, safety and diagnostics, saving installation and operation time and costs. The CPX for example can function autonomously as an I/O system with integrated control, as individual modules permit communication from the simple gateway function to control of the front-end in the machine in IP65. A front-end controller CoDeSys enables the direct mounting of a controller in a machine, thus reducing installation costs and enabling pre-processing or completely autonomous control. Electric multi-axis controllers like modules CPX control up to 31 electric drives as individual axes or synchronously up to 8 axes with 2.5-D interpolation via CANopen. They can also control proportional pneumatic or servo pneumatic applications. The electric soft-stop end-position controller enables 30 % faster cycle times and 30 % lower air consumption through rapid vibration-free displacement between two hard stops. A further module available to be integrated into CPX is the servo pneumatic position controller for pneumatic drives.

Control Pressure & Temperature

In addition to controlling pneumatic and electrical motion, the function integration of CPX/MPA and CPX/VTSA now also encompasses the open and closed-loop control of pressure and temperature. Measuring modules turn pneumatic cylinders into space and time-saving sensors: they retract, advance and measure in just one operation. Integrated pressure measuring modules with four pressure sensors replace individual sensors in the field. Temperature measuring modules for four thermocouples or resistance measuring modules enable solutions in IP65, so the module requires less space and installation time.

Safety Functions with CPX/VTSA

The flexible valve terminal VTSA can also be combined with the electrical terminal CPX. The VTSA is the first valve terminal on the market that makes it possible to combine four different valve sizes.

And the safety functions of the terminal are even more important, achieving performance level PL d.

Customised Solutions

Customer-specific solutions, such as control cabinets or ready-to-install systems, are almost unthinkable without the CPX automation platform with remote I/O and valve terminals; it has become an integral part of a complete pre-assembled subsystem with which the user can save time and money during design and assembly.

Its modularity even permits the use of up to 512 I/O per fieldbus node. As a result, 128 valve coils and up to eight additional supply modules for pressure and power zones can be mounted - a real step forward in productivity at a possibly record-breaking length of three metres.
