India Graphene Engineering and Innovation Centre launched by MeitY

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched the India Graphene Engineering and Innovation Centre (IGEIC), a key initiative under the ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’ vision. The IGEIC, a not-for-profit Section 8 company, aims to establish a centre of excellence in the commercialization of graphene technology across various sectors, including electronics, energy storage, healthcare, material coatings, and sustainable material development.

The centre was inaugurated by Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, in the presence of notable dignitaries such as Smt. Sunita Verma, Group Coordinator, MeitY, Shri Madhavan Nambiar, Chairman, IGEIC, and Prof Alex James, among others.

Shri Krishnan emphasised the transformative impact of graphene technology, stating that IGEIC will play a crucial role in positioning India as a global leader in advanced materials. He highlighted the centre’s potential to foster innovation, boost economic growth, and create opportunities for startups and industries. The initiative is part of the Graphene Aurora program, designed to build a graphene ecosystem in India through collaborations between startups, SMEs, academia, industry, and government entities.
