HEPA Filters, an Introduction

HEPA is an acronym for "High Efficiency Particulate Absorbing" or "High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance" or, as officially defined by the Department of Energy (DOE) "High Efficiency Particulate Air". This type of air filter can theoretically remove at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mould, bacteria and any airborne particles with a size of 0.3 micrometres (?m) at 85 litres per minute (LPM). In some cases, they can even remove or reduce viral contamination. The diameter specification of 0.3 responds to the most penetrating particle size (MPPS). Particles that are smaller or larger are trapped with even higher efficiency.HEPA Filters an Introduction-1.jpg

Using the worst-case particle size results in the worst-case efficiency rating, (i.e., 99.97% or better for all particle sizes). HEPA filters are also employed to filter out highly hazardous aerosols such as those that are radioactive, bio-hazardous and highly toxic, (e.g., carcinogens). In the event of a nuclear, biological or chemical outbreak, HEPA filters are the last line of defense between the contamination and those who could be exposed to it.

Purpose: HEPA filters are designed to meet critical filtration requirements with an efficiency rating of 99.97% down to particle size of 0.3 micron.

Construction: Filter medium is constructed from pleated water repellent micro fibre glass paper. It is bounded to Aluminum/SS frame with special plastic based adhesive.

Application: Electronic and semi conductors, medical equipment, aerospace biotech and pharmaceuticals industries.

Sheltering cutting edge technology and employing experienced professional, the company is engaged in offering HEPA filters. It offers air purifiers with HEPA filters, which are widely used. The range of industrial HEPA filters and HEPA air filters give excellent output. These HEPA air purifiers can be obtained at economical rates. HEPA Filters an Introduction-2.jpg

Deep-pleat High Efficiency Filter

HEPA filters are composed of a randomly arranged fiber mat. The key issues affecting their function are fiber density and diameter, and filter thickness.

The air space between HEPA filter fibres is much greater than 0.3 ?m. The common assumption that a HEPA filter acts like a sieve where particles smaller than the largest opening can pass through is incorrect. Just as for membrane filters, particles so large that they are as wide as the largest opening or distance between fibers can not pass in between them at all. But HEPA filters are designed to target much smaller pollutants and particles are mainly trapped (they stick to a fiber) by one of the following three mechanisms:

Close-pleat High Efficiency Filter Advanced close pleated media technology enables these filters to be manufactured without separators allowing them to handle a much higher than normal air volume at much lower resistances, leading to a greatly increased filter life. Close pleat type filters available in panel form for use in laminar flow benches and fixed ceiling housings or in hooded form as totally disposable units with integral diffusers and spigots for circular duct connections to fit direct into grid ceilings.
