Henkel Launches India’s First Mid-Haul Re-Powered Electric Truck Operations

In a landmark initiative for India’s green mobility landscape, Henkel Adhesive Technologies, in partnership with an integrated logistics and transport solutions company that has a tie-up with an EV retrofitting solutions provider, has flagged off the country’s first mid-haul re-powered electric truck operations for commercial logistics. The pilot operation connects key industrial hubs via two inaugural routes: Chennai to Pune (1321 km) and Pune to Halol (713 km)

The re-powered electric trucks, equipped with a complete electric powertrain kit, deliver a range of 250 km per charge with payload capacity of up to 8 tons.  A single round trip on the Chennai–Pune route helps save approximately 1212 kg of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, underscoring the substantial environmental impact this transition can make across India’s logistics chain.

For Henkel, mitigating climate change is a core element of our climate strategy. To achieve our net-zero target, we aim for at least 90 percent absolute emission reductions through abatement across at least 95 per¬cent of all scope 1 and 2 emissions and across 90 percent of all scope 3 emissions by 2045. We intend to reduce emissions from upstream and downstream value chain activities by focusing on eco design, low-emission materials, supplier engagement and carbon-efficient logistics. This shift from conventional drivetrains toward sustainable alternatives such as re-powered electric trucks will go a long way in abating our logistics emissions.

Henkel in India operates in two business areas: Henkel Adhesive Technologies and Henkel Consumer Brands, through the Hair category. It has two legal entities in the country: namely, Henkel Adhesives Technologies India Private Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of Henkel) and Henkel Anand India Private Limited (a joint venture company of Henkel and Anand Group).

Headquartered in Navi Mumbai, currently, Henkel in India has a footprint comprising four manufacturing sites, two innovation/product development centers, an adhesives service center, a customer experience center, a flexible packaging academy, two adhesive application centers one each for footwear and electronics industries respectively, five Schwarzkopf Professional academies, and a global technology center. Henkel is the name behind many well-known brands such as Loctite, Bonderite, Technomelt, Teroson, Aquence and Schwarzkopf.
