The Merck Millipore's Zero Head Space Extractor (ZHE) and Merck Millipore's Hazardous Waste Filtration System (HWF) are designed specifically for use in determining the mobility of volatile organics and heavy metals and semi-volatile compounds respectively described in Toxic Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP, EPA Method 1311) for determining the characteristics of solid wastes. The Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) determines the mobility of a specified list of organic and inorganic contaminants (metals, pesticides, herbicides, and solvents) in liquid, solid, and multiphasic wastes. TCLP simulates leaching of these contaminants in a landfill environment over time. Before waste may be deposited in designated landfills it must be tested by TCLP. The ZHE System has been designated by the USEPA as a suitable apparatus for TCLP.
The ZHE System incorporates a movable piston, which allows pressure filtration without introducing air into the sample. This eliminates the loss of volatiles through evaporation. The ZHE System may be used in the Standard Rotary Agitators. The Merck Millipore offers a Rotary Agitator designed specifically for use with our ZHE System. The four place device provides end-over-end rotation, as required by the USEPA, for thorough mixing and extraction of TCLP samples. The Hazardous Waste Filtration System is used in the toxicity determination of a solid waste in compliance with the USEPA Method 1311 for TCLP for semi and non-volatiles. This System is designed for absolute filtration and separation of solids from liquids by pressure filtration.
ZHE Hazardous Waste Filtration System, 90 mm
EPA Method 1311 compliant system for determining TCLP - volatile waste. The Merck Millipore's ZHE (Zero Head Space Extractor) system has been designated by the USEPA as a suitable apparatus for Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP)
Features
• It pressurizes the filter without introducing air because of the movable piston
• Prevents loss of volatiles
• The system cannot pressurize unless completely assembled; this eliminates accidental "shooting the piston" out of the unit and assure safe operation.
Hazardous Waste Filtration System, 142 mm
EPA Method 1311 compliant system for determining TCLP - metals, non-volatile and semi-volatile wastes. The Hazardous Waste Filtration System is designed for absolute filtration and separation of solids from liquids by pressure filtration.
This system has been designated by the USEPA as a suitable apparatus for Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP)
Features
• It separates solid and liquid phases of waste samples
• Contains interior holder with PTFE coating to prevent heavy metal contamination
• Allows easy introduction of bulky samples through wide entry port and removable top plate
• Disassembles for easy cleaning.
Rotary Agitator, 220 V/50 Hz
The Merck Millipore's Rotary Agitator is specifically designed for use with the Merck Millipore's Zero Head Space Extractor (ZHE) described in the TCLP procedure. It incorporates safety shield over the rotor and motor and provides end-over-end rotation as required by the USEPA for thorough mixing and extraction of TCLP samples. The Rotary Agitator fits from 01-04 units of ZHE 90 mm or 2-litre extraction bottles.
Features
• The rotor automatically stops when the shield is opened
• Error display is provided in case of malfunction
• System is provided with emergency break stop
• System consists of microprocessor controller, 2-line LCD display
with real time data of run time and facilitates restart operations on interruption due to power failure.

Volkswagen Group India has launched a Mechatronics Apprenticeship Programme in Pune. The 3-year programme is based on the German Dual System of Vocational Education and Training. It will provide employability in the areas of Production, Maintenance, Planning, Quality Assurance, and Research & Development. The Volkswagen Mechatronics Apprenticeship Programme has been designed keeping in mind the increasing complexity of production processes, which demands a workforce that has expertise in mechanical, electronic and informatics skills as well as in other modern automation technologies. Apart from these skills, the workforce will also develop their interpersonal skills through the programme. The existing Volkswagen Academy Training Centre with its seminar rooms and labs for Soft Skills Training, Electrics/Electronics, Robot, IT and Automation Technology will be a part of the premises utilised to impart this training. In addition to this, two additional workshops and two additional classrooms will also be used to provide training as part of the Programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr John Chacko, Volkswagen Group Chief Representative India, President and Managing Director, Volkswagen India Private Limited, said, "The automobile industry in India has seen a very strong growth in the past few years. The need of the hour is to have industry ready people to take care of the challenges raised by this steady growth. The 3 year Mechatronics Apprenticeship Programme by Volkswagen Group India is a step in this direction by developing mechanical, electronic and informatics skills of the workforce in the ever growing automobile industry." Mr. Upadhyay, Executive Director, Human Resource and Administration Volkswagen India Private Limited, said, "The Mechatronics programme will develop well-rounded specialists who are able to handle the complexity of high quality production. They would play a very important role in the competitive world of highly automated industries. This programme under the dual system will give an edge to the Volkswagen Group workforce in this highly competitive auto industry." Mr. Ralf Mayer, Head of Apprenticeship and Technical Training, Volkswagen India Private Limited, explained, "The Volkswagen Academy at Volkswagen India Private Limited is accredited as BTC & RI (Basic Training Centre & Related Instructions) by the Indian vocational training institutions DVET and NCVT, who approved the apprenticeship programme under the regulations of the Indian trade Mechanic Mechatronics.
The syllabus of the programme has been divided into 3 parts beginning with the basic skills training at the Volkswagen Training Academy to the project work which includes an insight into the manufacturing and production processes." Mr Jaiprakash D Bhutange, Director, Directorate of Vocational Education & Training, Maharashtra said, "It is a great honour for us to be associated with Volkswagen Group India and this course will bridge the gap between the need and the requirement from the industry. This initiative will definitely boost the technical know-how of the work-force in the industry and the academia giving them employment opportunities in the automobile sector."
The workshops are fully embedded into the Volkswagen plant's manufacturing environment. This hand-in-hand approach, which is typical of the dual system of vocational education and training in the Volkswagen locations worldwide, guarantees the best possible practice orientation for the apprentices right from the start of their training.
