Going green with hybrid lubrication system

Machine lubrication can be messy, dirty and environmentally damaging. Or it can be clean, tidy and environment friendly. There is a choice.

W ith continuous R&D efforts and subsequent development of new products and technologies, the process of lubrication – tools and consumables – has evolved over a period of time. This benefits all the stakeholders – machine manufacturers, users and the environment.

The LHL system, developed by Lube Corporation, Japan, provides precision delivery of the exact amount of lubricant required at a precise timing in order to promote the optimum performance of production machinery operated under harsh conditions. In addition, the revolutionary lubricant developed for the LHL system helps provide a cleaner and healthier factory environment. The LHL system is an exciting new solution that boosts the value of production.

Lube Corporation, Japan, was established in 1964 and has a rich legacy of over 50 years in the field of machine lubrication, making the process environment friendly by the automation of various devices as well as developing green lubricants.

The LHL (Lube Hybrid Lubricant) is a hybrid integrated lubrication system that combines the advantages of both oil and grease. It was developed to solve the following problems:

Foul smell of deteriorated and decomposed coolant due to oil lubrication

High oil consumption

Imperfect lubrication due to grease adherence and insufficient coating of components, and

A large amount of drained grease in lubricated sections.

In order to solve the above problems, LHL-X100 was developed as a lubricant suitable for the environment and conditions in which machine tool components are used. Subsequently, many variants of LHL have been developed and are in use, addressing different needs and applications.

LHL has the advantages of both oil, such as excellent non-adherence, liquidity and intervention; and grease, such as excellent extreme pressure resistance, wear resistance, water resistance and retention.

Resolving oil lubrication problems

LHL resolves most of the problems machine tools users are facing with lubrication. These can be broadly classified under three heads:

Reducing consumption of lubricant

Lubricant cost

Man hours of refilling (lost productivity)

Contamination of machines and workshops, and

Storage and transportation of oil.

Preventing the deterioration and decomposition of cutting fluid

Plenty of lubrication oil getting into cutting oil
Undesirable working environment due to foul smell
Deteriorated cutting fluid, and
Waste cutting fluid disposal.

Reducing the abrasion of machine parts

Poor oil film maintaining capacity
Rust and abrasion caused by cutting fluid washing oil away, and
Lubrication trouble due to different lubricant.

The total benefits include:

No emulsification and prevents rust with excellent anti-rust properties
Forming and maintaining a strong oil film on rolling surfaces of linear-guide bearings, and
Offers an ideal lubrication effect with a proper lubricant volume at proper time.

“We give careful consideration to the various conditions in which precision machines are used around the world, and continue to verify in-house the convenience, reliability, and durability of maintenance conducted by using lubrication technologies. In doing so, we hope to be able to share our problem awareness with machine users and manufacturers throughout the world, who provide support for basic industries, as if we were a single team,” says Roland Machado, Managing Director, Lube Automatic Systems Private Limited, the Indian subsidiary of Lube Corporation, Japan.

“We have made it our mission to stick to the origin of value creation. In other words, we have determined to continue responding to the various applications of our worldwide customers and providing services that make our customers truly happy, while adhering to continuous improvement of the LHL lubrication equipment and the LHL system concepts,” he adds.

After over 10 years of experience in the Indian market, the company has successfully installed over 1000 machines across India. It has gained trust of major automobile customers like Maruti Suzuki, Hero, Honda, Yamaha, and many more.

Besides machine tools, LHL system is suitable for injection moulding machines; packaging, metal stamping, food processing and wood working machines; and other industrial precision machines that use oil and/or grease for lubrication. It helps solve environmental and contamination problems in machines that need lubrication.

The parent company in Japan has established the Lube Global Centre at Tsu, the capital city of Mie Prefecture in Japan, in 2014. This centre addresses the needs of the company and its global markets – the US, China, Germany, India and Vietnam – for R&D as well as training of service engineers from all the markets at a central location. The centre holds periodic workshops for training on inspection methods, handling of cartridges, repair and refurbishing of lubrication systems, etc. It is also engaged in development of new systems in view of emerging regulations and service conditions. Besides, the centre also is working for addressing country specific issues wherever it has operations.
