Uttarakhand, before it was formed as a separate State in the year 2000, had almost 80% of the tourism centres of the undivided Uttar Pradesh. This is a land of scenic beauty, temples, lakes, mountains, glaciers and green lush meadows.

But in recent years, Uttarakhand has also emerged as one of the most attractive industrial destinations in India. The New Industrial Policy announced in 2003 by the state government puts in place the regulatory framework for Uttarakhand's industrialisation.
