As Taiwan and India are exploring the possibilities to further boost bilateral trade relations comes EMMA Expo 2011, a premier event to be held in Chennai that would showcase Taiwan's core competencies for the Indian market. The show, scheduled for August 25-27, 2011 at the Chennai Trade Centre, is an International Exhibition of Electronics; Machinery; Moulds; and Auto Parts (EMMA).

EMMA is the only Taiwan government-backed fair in India, and is organised by its foremost trade promotion body, TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council), and three leading Taiwan industry associations covering auto vehicles, machinery and electronics. The EMMA brand is an abbreviation of the show's four main product categories: Electronics, Machinery, Moulds, and Auto Parts. The event combines Taiwan's best in product quality, price, design, and innovation to feed India's vast demand for production equipment and components for its developing industries. Exhibits would include consumer electronics; electronic appliances; electric components; photovoltaic (PV) products; security and safety products; PCBs; computers and peripherals; metalworking machinery; moulds and plastic machinery; food processing machinery, etc.

The 2010 edition of EMMA was a grand success that saw a 13-member delegation led by Taiwan's vice minister of economic affairs (MOEA). This year too promises to be no different with a team led by the minister of Ministry of Economic Affairs, Dr. Shih Yen-Shiang likely to visit the event. The 2011 edition is the 5th EMMA and would build upon the momentum of EMMA Expo India 2010 that chalked up an impressive 300% growth in on-site transactions, increased visitor turnout by a quarter and expanded exhibitor count by 8% on the 2009 event.

Since its start EMMA Expo India has constantly grown in size and reputation. It now enjoys a renowned brand throughout South India. From the electronics sector alone Emma Expo India welcomed such big players as Flextronics, Siemens, HCL, Wipro, auto industry moguls like BMW India, Renault Nissan, Ford India, Tata and other industry tycoons including Tube Products of India, Reliance Industries and Essar Steel.

Taiwan accounts for 13 out the world's top 250 ICT firms. Its competence in ICT industry well positions it to tap into the India market, where demand for consumer electronics goods is exploding. And this is where the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion comes in. As part of the Taiwan Excellence Campaign it introduces made-by-Taiwan lifestyle and electronic goods such as PC, Networking, projectors, camcorders and peripherals targeted at the Indian consumer from 24 leading companies including Asus, Ben Q, Transcend, GIGABYTE and Silicon Power.

For the record, the EMMA 2010 hosted 800+ 1-on-1 procurement meetings grossing US$ 18.2mn (3X EMMA 2009) and saw participation soar with 17 publicly-listed firms among 166 exhibitors with 260 booths. All the more reasons for the 2011 edition being billed as a "Your Can't-miss Show!"
