Birla Opus Paints inaugurates fourth plant; Targets Rs 100 billion in revenue

The Chamarajnagar plant will produce a range of products, including water-based paints, enamel paints, and wood finishes, catering specifically to the growing demand in southern India.
Birla Opus Paints, a subsidiary of Grasim Industries under the Aditya Birla Group, has inaugurated its fourth manufacturing plant in Chamarajnagar, Mysore. The new facility, which adds 230 million litres per annum (MLPA) to the company’s production capacity, raises its total capacity to 866 MLPA. This expansion is part of a larger strategic plan to establish six plants with a combined capacity of 1,332 MLPA, backed by an upfront investment of Rs 100 billion.
The Chamarajnagar plant will produce a range of products, including water-based paints, enamel paints, and wood finishes, catering specifically to the growing demand in southern India. Speaking about the development, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman, Aditya Birla Group, stated, “This state-of-the-art facility aligns with our growth strategy and reinforces our commitment to becoming a leader in the decorative paints industry.”
Currently, four plants are operational, with the fifth plant in Mahad, near Pune, in trial production and the sixth in Kharagpur, near Kolkata, progressing as scheduled. Birla Opus Paints, now the second-largest decorative paint player in India by installed capacity, aims to achieve Rs 100 billion in revenue within the first three years of full-scale operations.
As part of its growth initiatives, the company has also launched PaintCraft Partner, a franchise-led painting services model designed to complement its direct services and expand its customer reach. Rakshit Hargave, CEO, Birla Opus Paints, highlighted the company’s focus on innovation, ESG commitments, and smart factory technology, stating that these advancements ensure the delivery of high-quality products with differentiated features.
