Automation in material handling & storage systems

Jay Equipment & Systems Pvt Ltd started with basic material handling equipment and today offers total solutions in in-plant material handling and storage systems.

Like most SMEs, Jay Equipment & Systems Pvt Ltd had a small beginning. Established in 1984 for manufacturing basic material handling equipment, the company has today grown into a group offering total solutions in in-plant material handling and storage systems.

Over the years it has witnessed a lot of changes and developments in this sector, seen many ups and downs, but the main focus was always on material handling equipment, and gradually it has developed storage systems with fully automated forming technology and excellent powder coating facilities.

The company Jay Equipment & Systems Pvt Ltd manufactures a wide range material handling products that are adaptable for various industries. The wide spectrum includes: lift trucks, dock levellers, scissors and maintenance platforms, lifting platforms, drum handling equipment and other miscellaneous and special equipment. Jay Storage Solutions Pvt Ltd, on the other hand, is one of leading solution providers of warehouse storage systems and automated warehouses, specialised in the design, manufacturing, metal racking, automated warehouses and other storage solutions. The range includes a wide variety of racking systems like: pallet racking systems – conventional and customised, shelving and picking systems, cantilever racking systems, mezzanine floor systems and automated warehouses.

The company has own design and development team, and all its products are indigenously designed and manufactured at a state-of-the-art plant in Vasai, near Mumbai. “At Jay we keep on innovating new products from time to time to provide our customers value addition. Most of the important components used are of European make, as we follow strict quality standards, and our main USP is providing products with European quality at pricing suited to Indian customers,” says Nimesh Karelia, Director. The company has developed an excellent vendor base and has found that Indian manufacturers are excellent in problem solving, and at the same time among the most reliable globally. These vendors have been associated with the company for many years and have grown with it, with the same culture of committed to provide on time deliveries and good service.

One of the important attributes of ‘Jay’ products is that these are future ready. The company has recently come out with an all-new series of equipment across all ranges of products, which are now more efficient, user-friendly and easily serviceable, with least breakdown, suitable for continuous work. The products are specifically designed looking at operator safety and ergonomically suitable for working long hours efficiently. The new equipment design follows all safety guidelines and visible readings and clear vision mast for the best working environment.

Automation is today an important attribute and ‘Jay’ products incorporate various degrees of automation, especially in the storage systems. “We have a very wide range of products in storage systems with fully automatic forming of sections and excellent powder coating facilities. We have developed huge warehouses for many logistics companies, and we can say that we are the first in India to indigenously design and manufacture Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems [AS&RS] with Warehouse Management Software [WMS] fully compatible and in sync with SAP. Our AS&RS was first installed in a pharma company in Gujarat and we have had the privilege to design and develop a highly automated AS&RS system for the Indian defence sector,” says Nimesh. Since automation is the future, the company has developed the expertise and capability to provide further automation in this product as required by customers.

“Make in India, is a very good initiative by our prime minister, attracting global attention,” feels Nimesh. When asked whether the company has any collaboration with an overseas major, he replied in the negative. “At present we do not have any alliances, but we are looking at the opportunities for providing a manufacturing base to anyone seeking the same. We have a very well equipped factory for both material handling equipment and storage systems, and we are capable enough to meet any requirement for providing facilities to ‘Make in India’. We are glad to say that our products are already conforming to European standards with state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities,” concludes Nimesh.
