Gurugram (Haryana)

Gurugram-based Sona BLW Precision Forgings Limited, also known as Sona Comstar, has announced plans to enter a new line of business focused on manufacturing components and systems for the robotics industry, including advanced robotics. The company’s Board of Directors, at its meeting held on 16 June 2026, approved a capital expenditure of Rs 626 million for the proposed expansion. The approval was based on the recommendation of the company’s Capex Committee.

The move marks a significant strategic step for Sona Comstar, one of the world’s leading mobility technology companies, as it looks to access new end markets and application areas beyond the automotive industry. For example, in FY26, Sona BLW Precision Forgings Limited registered a revenue of Rs 44.75 billion with 26 per cent YoY growth. The share of non-automotive segment in the company's revenue mix has grown from about 10 per cent (in FY25) to 32 per cent in FY26 mainly driven by its new railway business.

With robotics emerging as a key growth area across manufacturing, warehousing, mobility, logistics and automation-led industries, Sona Comstar’s new business line is expected to help the company broaden its product portfolio and create long-term growth opportunities.

According to the company, the approved investment will be directed towards manufacturing components and systems for advanced robotics. The expansion is expected to strengthen Sona Comstar’s position in high-precision engineering and technology-led manufacturing, while also reducing its dependence on traditional automotive applications.

The company said the new line of business belongs to the components and systems segment for advanced robotics. The expected benefits include access to new end markets, diversification of application areas, expansion of the company’s product portfolio and the creation of future growth avenues.

Sona Comstar’s decision comes at a time when robotics and automation are gaining strong momentum globally, driven by demand for productivity, precision, safety and efficiency across industries. By entering the advanced robotics components space, the company is positioning itself for opportunities in the next phase of industrial and mobility technology transformation.

The development also underlines the company’s intent to leverage its manufacturing capabilities and engineering expertise for emerging technology sectors beyond its established automotive business.

In October 2025, Sona Comstar inked a deal with Neura Robotics GmbH, based in Germany, to jointly develop advanced automation solutions, industrial robots, and humanoids in India. According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two companies will also work together on the industrialisation of robots and humanoids in India, as well as other global markets.  “As artificial intelligence, advanced perception, and control technologies progress rapidly alongside declining computing expenses, we’re witnessing the dawn of a transformative period in intelligent automation. This technological evolution is driving extraordinary expansion in both industrial robotics and humanoid robots, revolutionising manufacturing and logistics sectors worldwide,” said the company in the press statement.
