In a candid conversation, C S Shiva Shankaraiah, Managing Director, Trishul Machine Tools Pvt Ltd, delves into the company's journey and emerging prospects for its future growth
Aerospace has emerged as a key demand driver for Trishul Machine Tools.

How do you see the journey of your company since its inception?
Since our establishment in 1994, Trishul Machine Tools Pvt Ltd has experienced significant growth, now producing approximately 60 - 80 polygon turning machines annually. We began with TPT 2S and TPT 5S models and have expanded into ball turning machines. Our reach extends to 14 countries globally, and we continually upgrade our machinery with advanced controllers for enhanced monitoring and production efficiency.

Could you please share with us some new developments in your company in the last two years?
Recognising the market demand for improved ball turning machinery, we have developed a robust and highly efficient machine, setting new industry standards. Additionally, we have integrated advanced controllers into our latest machines to stay at the forefront of technology.

What are the key trends in the machine tools industry?
The future of machine tools lies in smart, interconnected systems with reduced error rates. We are witnessing a trend towards incorporating advanced software through IoT 4.0 modules.

How is the demand for your products & solutions from the automobile and auto component industry? How are you gearing up for trends like electric vehicles and lightweight vehicles in the segment?
The automobile industry, particularly post-COVID, has shown increased demand for our polygon turning machines, especially the TPT 5S model, due to the introduction of new car designs and components. We anticipate further demand as the industry shifts towards electric and lightweight vehicles.

Which non-automotive industries are driving the demand for your products & solutions? How do you see sectors like railways, defence & aerospace, electronics, etc. as the potential growth propellers?
The aerospace industry has emerged as a significant driver of demand for our products, fuelled by the post-COVID resurgence in travel and the aviation sector. This growth presents new opportunities for expansion into diverse sectors.

How are factors like automation and sustainability leading to changes in demand from your customers and in products/solutions offered by you?
Automation and sustainability are reshaping customer expectations, necessitating remote monitoring capabilities and rapid issue resolution. Our adoption of advanced controllers enables us to meet these demands while enhancing sustainability efforts.

What are the key challenges faced by SMEs like you? Is compliance one of the major hurdles for SME’s growth?
Competing with global MNCs for skilled labour and managing rising costs pose significant challenges. Compliance with regulations, including taxes, GST, licenses, and environmental standards, further adds to the complexity of SME operations.

What are your growth plans?
A: Post-COVID, Trishul Machine Tools aims to capitalise on market opportunities by expanding domestic manufacturing capacity, particularly for in-demand products like ball turning machines. We also plan to venture into new sectors such as EV manufacturing, while prioritising automation and the integration of AI, IoT, and machine learning technologies.
