297 factories sealed away by NMC

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) has shut down 297 factories which happen to deal in materials such as rubber, plastic and chemicals in Swarn Park, Tikari Kalan, Mundka, Kamruddin Nagar, Ghevra and Nilothi.
The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) has shut down 297 factories which happen to deal in materials such as rubber, plastic and chemicals in Swarn Park, Tikari Kalan, Mundka, Kamruddin Nagar, Ghevra and Nilothi.
In recent times, the NMC has sealed 516 factories running illegally and polluting the air by letting out viscious gases and violating various other laid-down norms. In Prahaladpur, Puthkhurd and Shahabad Daulatpur, 219 other factories and warehouses were sealed away for operating in non-conforming areas.
According to reports, the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) has provided a list of such polluting units which were functioning in residential areas. Over 10,000 such units were found out in these areas, and there was adequate action taken after a list of these units was revealed by the DSIIDC.
The Environment Pollution Control Auhtority (EPCA) had also written to Haryana and Punjab to see the brick kilns being shut down in the NCR from November 1 to 10. The industrial area of Mundka was supposed to be closed from November 1 to 10 so that the civic body can eliminate all the debris such as rubber, plastic and other waste.
To monitor and contain pollution, the civic body also formed 43 teams under clean air campaign for night patrolling in all of its six zones for checking incidents of air pollution, which have been caused by burning of garbage and leaves or construction activity. Several areas were reportedly scrutinised by the building departments for construction activity, causing dust pollution. 39 sites had been fined and nearly Rs 8 lakh has been collected for violations.
