Jupiter Wagons, BEML secure Rs 802 cr defence contracts

Jupiter Wagons and BEML have successfully secured contracts totalling Rs 802 crore from the Defence Ministry, as announced. Jupiter Wagons, specialising in railway freight production, clinched a deal worth Rs 473 crore for the manufacture of 697 Bogie Open Military Wagons. Additionally, BEML secured orders amounting to Rs 329 crore for 56 units of the mechanical minefield marking equipment Mark II, according to a statement released by the defence ministry.

The statement highlighted that the equipment for these orders will be sourced from indigenous manufacturers, emphasising the significant contribution to indigenous manufacturing and the increased involvement of the private sector in defence production. This development is expected to provide a substantial boost to the domestic defence industry.

Bogie Open Military Wagons (BOM wagons) produced by Jupiter Wagons are instrumental in transporting light vehicles, artillery guns, and engineering equipment from peacetime locations to operational areas. On the other hand, the Mechanical Minefield Marking Equipment Mark II (MMME) by BEML is designed for cross-country operation with a complete load of stores, facilitating efficient marking of minefields with minimal time and manpower requirements.
