We undertake turnkey projects for clean rooms

Sanjay Batra, Director, Sam Products Pvt Ltd, explains how he beat the odds to build a huge reputation for clean room products.

What are the clean room products that you offer?

When we started operations, it was with assembly of air curtains. Later we added more products over the years, like air showers, laminar flow benches, fan filter units, pass box, etc. Today we undertake turnkey projects for clean rooms.

What are the applications and main user industries?

As the name indicates, clean rooms are places where the working space has to be sanitised and clean because of the nature of the job, where hygiene is of utmost important and contamination risk totally eliminated. It is not just about food preparation or pharma but also assembly of electronics, areas for assembly of sensitive equipment like fuel injectors so these products are use in various industries – automobiles, pharmaceuticals, electronics, information technology, semi conductors, R&D labs, etc.

What is the USP of these products and the regulatory compliance?

Our products are CE certified and the organisation is ISO 9001: 2015 certified. Customers also benefit as they get to experience all the products and facilities under one roof, including design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, testing, warranty, service, etc.

How strong/effective is the sales network and after sales service?

Our products are sold throughout the country from Ladakh and Kargil in the north to Kanyakumari in the south, Bharuch in the west to Manipur in the east. We have young and dynamic team members for after sales service visiting various parts of country as and when required.

What is the Company’s history and achievements?

We started from scratch in 1992 from a small rented place in Noida. We literally had nothing with us – no previous experience of business, no contacts, no factory place of our own, no machines, and no capital. It was sheer will power, loads of aspiration, and lots of hope – yes, we had these positives and that is what worked for us!

Over the years we have built strong trust with our customers. Today the customer is confident once the requirement is shared with our organisation, thereafter his/her responsibility is with us and we do not disappoint! As for achievements, there are many, and just recently we were awarded the Global Quality Award for Clean Rooms for 2016. Earlier we have also received the Udyog Bharti Award.

Any breakthrough product launch that made a difference?

We have had many breakthroughs working with clients on their requirements and developing many new products and applications in the process.

There is this interesting example of a well known manufacturer of inverter batteries in Himachal Pradesh in 2014. The General Manager, Projects & Engineering of the company at that time was looking for various options to control floating lead in air. Since lead is used in batteries and is very harmful for the operators, he was in touch with an American consultant and about to finalise the requirements. After few telephone discussions and two meetings he suggested us to make the longest air shower in India. The only catch was it should be better than the American product.

Since it was a matter of saving precious foreign exchange and investment for the company, he was willing to take the risk. For us too it was the first of a kind, but we accepted the challenge and executed it successfully. Even the American consultant was surprised such a technically perfect product, and he too appreciated our efforts.

Recently at one of the exhibitions we were approached by a doctor. The problem was simple, but he was desperate for solution. Blood can be stored at specific temperature only, or else it is rendered useless. Once the blood is removed from the cold cabin, it needs to be preserved at a particular temperature (whether kept on table or stored for delivery). In our country power cuts are very common and another problem is the not all blood banks are equipped with air conditioners, thereby increasing the room temperature. Yes, the variation is also huge in ambient/room temperature. Since this was an interesting problem it took us nearly three months, but we found a solution, and in the process had a new product for saving precious human life requiring blood.
