Siemens Limited declares CAPEX of over Rs 10 billion

Siemens Limited has unveiled plans for significant capital expenditure (CAPEX) exceeding Rs 10 billion, marking a milestone in its expansion efforts in India. This investment includes the expansion of two of its 32 factories in the country, complementing the capacity enhancements previously announced for its Power Transformer factory in Kalwa and Vacuum Interrupter factory in Goa back in November 2023.

The company's Smart Infrastructure Business is set to boost its factory presence in Goa with an investment of Rs 3.33 billion, marking the largest investment by Siemens in the state. This expansion aims to cater to the rising demand for critical components across industry, infrastructure, and power distribution sectors. The factory will introduce cutting-edge Gas Insulated Switchgear and Clean Air GIS (Blue GIS) technologies, catering to sectors like data centres, metro rail, oil & gas, steel, and transmission & distribution, thus aiding customers in achieving their sustainability objectives.

Recognising the pivotal role of sustainable transportation in fostering sustainable cities, Siemens' Mobility Business is investing Rs 1.86 billion to establish a state-of-the-art Metro train manufacturing facility in Aurangabad. This facility, complementing the existing bogie manufacturing unit, will leverage the latest technologies, locally sourced components, and skilled workforce to meet evolving customer needs. It is poised to serve as a crucial export hub for Metro Turnkey projects in the future.

Sunil Mathur, MD & CEO, Siemens Limited, commented, “Over the past few years, India has made rapid strides as a preferred destination for manufacturing and business. We believe that with the latest investments, our largest in recent years, we will be able to better address customer requirements with a stronger portfolio and go-to-market. It is further evidence of the strong commitment of Siemens towards India and will help leverage the full potential of the fast-growing Indian market.”

Both factories are aligned with global sustainability benchmarks and are in line with the Government of India's Make in India and Aatmanirbhar initiatives through localisation efforts. Designed to meet LEED Gold standards, they will operate as carbon-neutral and water-positive facilities, employing sustainable technologies such as PV solar, micro grid, EV charging, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and rainwater harvesting. Additionally, they will adopt circular construction techniques and incorporate recycled materials, further emphasising Siemens' commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation.
