ENGIE to Collaborate with Start-ups to Boost Digital Innovation in India’s Energy Sector

ENGIE, a global leader in low-carbon energy and services, launched its Global Enterprise Start-up Program to collaborate with enterprise-ready start-ups in addressing operational and technological challenges in India’s renewable energy sector. The initiative will focus on solutions built on artificial intelligence and digital technologies, aiming to improve efficiency and support India’s energy transition goals.

ENGIE has introduced Urja.ai, a platform designed to accelerate innovation through strategic partnerships. The program will strengthen collaboration between ENGIE and start-ups across key segments of the renewables and batteries value chain—including business development, EPC, and operations and maintenance. It also extends ENGIE India’s newly established energy trading business, where digital tools and advanced analytics are reshaping market participation. By fostering this synergy, ENGIE aims to co-develop solutions that combine start-up agility with industry expertise, ensuring innovation translates into practical impact for India’s clean energy transition.

“India is at the heart of the global energy transition, and start-ups here are uniquely positioned to bring fresh thinking and bold innovation. Through this program, we aim to partner with start-ups that can help us address challenges in solar, wind, batteries, and energy management. Together, we aim to accelerate India’s shift to cleaner energy while creating new opportunities for the ecosystem,” said Amit Jain, CEO & Country Manager India, MD Renewables & Batteries India & South-East Asia, ENGIE in India.

Applications will open in October 2025, followed by a selection process in November. A pitch day will be held in December to shortlist start-ups, with final engagements beginning in January 2026. Selected start-ups will have the opportunity to run pilot projects with ENGIE India, receive mentoring from senior leaders, and access potential grant funding.

The program is open to mature start-ups from India and overseas. Participants will be evaluated based on the novelty of their ideas, relevance to ENGIE’s use cases, and their track record of actual deployment.

Incorporated in 2014 and headquartered in Pune, ENGIE is one of India’s leading clean power generation companies and a global reference in low-carbon energy solutions. ENGIE is committed to decarbonisation with an ambitious “Net Zero Carbon” target by 2045. Together with our employees, customers, partners, and stakeholders, we deliver competitive turnkey low-carbon solutions. ENGIE’s ambition is to become the world leader in the zero-carbon transition, fully aligned with the Government of India’s renewable energy targets.

As ENGIE in India celebrates over decade of renewable operations, it continues to implement impactful sustainability and CSR initiatives in education, health, and well-being. The company has received multiple accolades, including Best Large-Scale Solar PV Project (2020, 2022), India’s Best Renewable Energy Deal of the Year (2020), recognition among the Top Influencers in the Solar Industry (2021) and Best Organization for Women (2025).
