Bosch Connected Industry offers IIoT software & services by leveraging AI to optimise production in the digital factory & beyond. In this interview with Rakesh Rao, Hemanth Sheelvant, Senior Director - Digital Business, Robert Bosch GmbH, discusses the evolution of the manufacturing sector with the rise of AI integration.

How is Bosch Connected Industry aiding manufacturing sector?
Bosch Connected Industry focuses on providing cutting-edge technologies to enhance industrial operations. With our Manufacturing Co-Intelligence portfolio, we integrate human expertise, machines, and AI solutions to offer advanced connectivity and operational insights. The portfolio consists of three key layers: smart operations (MES), a semantic data layer, and AI agents for manufacturing processes. These solutions are flexible, allowing customers to customise their agents, thus enabling business outcomes through domain-specific knowledge.

What led to the creation of Manufacturing Co-Intelligence?
Bosch Connected Industry has been operational since 2018, with the Manufacturing Co-Intelligence portfolio launched in the last quarter of 2025. This shift enabled us to better integrate AI into industrial operations, focusing on making data actionable and delivering tangible results for our customers.

How has the manufacturing landscape evolved in the last few years, and where do you see it going in the next few years?
Five years ago, the focus was mainly on IoT, connecting sensors and devices. Now, AI has taken centre stage, not just for pattern recognition in data but for generating recommendations and automating decisions. Bosch is at the forefront, offering a three-tiered AI solution stack and working with various infrastructure and system integration teams to push these capabilities further into the market.

Which industries are driving the demand for Bosch’s solutions?
Our primary focus is on discrete manufacturing, particularly in the automotive sector, component manufacturing, and electronics. These industries require advanced solutions for efficiency and are increasingly adopting AI and digital transformation.

How important is the Indian market for Bosch Connected Industry?
India is a key market for Bosch. The digital transformation within Indian industries is accelerating, and the market is set to grow substantially. With dedicated budgets and the establishment of roles like Chief Data Officers (CDOs) and Chief Information Officers (CIOs), India’s readiness to embrace digital technologies is evident. We see India as a primary market for Bosch Connected Industry, with the potential for significant growth leading up to 2030.

What challenges do SMEs in India face regarding digitalisation, and how can Bosch assist them?
SMEs face challenges in adopting new technologies due to high upfront costs. However, our solutions, particularly the Agent AI and semantic stack, are SaaS-based. This means SMEs don’t need to invest in their own cloud infrastructure; they pay based on their operational expenses. We also offer tiered packages that cater to different needs, from small-scale to enterprise-level solutions, which makes it easier for SMEs to integrate AI into their operations.

What are your growth plans for the Indian market?
Bosch is already well-established in India, particularly in automotive and two-wheeler manufacturing. Moving forward, we plan to expand our presence in component manufacturing, electronics, and consumer goods. As India continues to digitalise, Bosch Connected Industry will play a crucial role in driving these transformations.
