AptarGroup breaks ground on new pharma plant in Taloja, near Mumbai

AptarGroup, a US-based leader in drug and consumer product delivery solutions, has held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Taloja, near Mumbai. This new facility will expand Aptar's presence in India, supporting the growing demand for advanced drug delivery technologies in the region.

The new Taloja plant will focus on the production of several critical technologies, including Aptar’s pressurised metered dose inhaler (pMDI) valves, breath-actuated devices, and single-dose nasal sprays. These products are essential for the delivery of drugs used to treat respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Aptar’s global leadership in inhalation devices supports both Indian pharmaceutical companies and their export markets in the launch of inhalers and nasal sprays.  Spanning 4,400 square metres, the new plant will be constructed adjacent to Aptar's existing Mumbai facility, which opened in 2023. This expansion will further strengthen the company’s manufacturing capacity in the region, allowing it to meet increasing local demand for high-quality, innovative pharmaceutical products.

Sanjay Kapote, President- India and Southeast Asia, Aptar Pharma, commented, “This new plant in Taloja will help us better serve the growing pharma market in India and reinforce our commitment to investing in the pharmaceutical sector. It will significantly enhance our ability to efficiently deliver innovative products.”

Kapote also expressed Aptar’s interest in expanding its capabilities through acquisitions in the pharmaceutical space, noting the company's plans to pursue potential acquisitions of intellectual property-driven pharma packaging companies. “We see great potential for growth in the Indian pharmaceutical market and are eager to expand our position,” he added.   This move reflects Aptar’s ongoing efforts to increase its presence in India’s expanding pharmaceutical industry while pushing its capabilities in drug dosing, dispensing, and protection.
