The Association of Indian Forging Industry (AIFI) and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote energy-efficient technologies in the Indian forging industry. This landmark collaboration supports the Assistance for Deployment of Energy Efficient Technologies in Industrial Establishments (ADEETIE) scheme, marking a significant step toward fostering sustainable manufacturing practices in the sector. The MoU was signed in the presence of the Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar.

The ADEETIE scheme, launched by the Ministry of Power and implemented by BEE, aims to help MSMEs in 14 energy-intensive sectors, including forging, adopt cutting-edge energy-efficient technologies. The scheme offers comprehensive support, including interest subvention on loans for technology adoption, assistance with energy audits, guidance on project implementation, and post-deployment monitoring. It also involves the establishment of a dedicated project management unit and a nodal banking partner to streamline execution.

Yash Munot, President of AIFI, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating, “This collaboration with BEE is a major step for the Indian forging industry. The energy-intensive forging sector stands to benefit significantly from the ADEETIE scheme’s structured support. By facilitating access to financial incentives and technical guidance, this initiative will empower MSMEs to adopt energy-efficient technologies, aligning with our vision of a globally competitive, environmentally responsible forging ecosystem.”

The scheme, with a budget outlay of Rs 10 billion, is expected to generate Rs 90 billion in investments, including Rs 67.50 billion in MSME lending. Forging units will receive interest subvention rates of 5% for micro and small enterprises and 3% for medium enterprises, helping overcome financial barriers to adopting energy-efficient solutions.

Deven Doshi, Chairman – Government Interface, AIFI, emphasised the strategic impact of the initiative: “Energy efficiency is critical for forging companies, but the MSME sector often faces challenges in adopting cleaner technologies. The ADEETIE scheme provides a comprehensive support framework addressing technical, operational, and financial challenges, ensuring compliance with energy norms and promoting long-term industrial modernisation.”

The forging industry, especially the MSME segment, has long been a key pillar of India’s manufacturing and export ecosystem, contributing significantly to sectors like automotive, defence, and capital goods. However, the high energy consumption in forging processes presents sustainability and cost challenges. The ADEETIE scheme directly addresses these issues, providing crucial support for the sector’s transition to sustainable practices.

AIFI will play a vital role in connecting forging enterprises with government initiatives, facilitating access to fiscal incentives, and offering technical guidance on energy audits, project formulation, and implementation.

This MoU signals a strategic partnership between AIFI and BEE, which will drive greener manufacturing practices, reduce energy footprints, enhance productivity, and support India’s broader sustainability goals.

Founded in 1965, AIFI is India’s oldest and largest forging association, representing over 200 members across the country. The Indian forging industry plays a critical role in the success of the automotive, power, and general engineering sectors.
