The digital revolution or Industry 4.0 is the next big think for the manufacturing industry. Lantek, a global IT major and a pioneer in the digital transformation of the sheet metal and fabrication industrial sector, is helping companies build smart factories. Though 30 per cent of Lantek’s clients are Fortune 500 multinationals, it sees big potential in the SMEs sector. In this interview, Muralidhar Dharma Rao, Country Head, Lantek India, tracks the changes taking place in the manufacturing sector and highlights solutions offered by Lantek for digitalization and smart factories.
 
How do you view the performance of Lantek in India? 
 
With over 23,000 customers world over, Lantek is a global information technology (IT) company and a pioneer in the development of application software for the sheet metal and plate processing applications for CNC laser, plasma, oxy-fuel, water-jet cutting and turret punching, tube cutting and 5-axis cutting solutions. Our most powerful nesting helps our users to save significantly in their activities. Lantek further integrates worth the 3D design & structural software’s directly integrating into Lantek. 
 
Lantek started India operations in 2004 with its offshore development center with exclusive EOU with commercial offices in Bengaluru and Pune. We have witness strong growth in India over the last 15 years with over 700 users trusting Lantek in their daily work.
 
What are the key concerns/challenges before the customers? And how do you help them overcome 
these challenges? 
 
Lantek key driving solutions are into the factory management solutions by digitalizing, which enable to make smart factories.
 
The initial key challenge is the optimisation of the raw materials. With Lantek advanced nesting algorithm we help our clients with over 95 per cent utilisation.
 
Control in the shop floor is the key challenges our clients face, where we bring in the smart digitalization which helps the clients with the live info & control of their shop floor with a brief operational process and the history with best analysis for their advanced planning.
 
What is your opinion about Indian market, in general, and metal working sector, in particular?
 
In the recent past quarters, the Indian manufacturing industry has been witnessing a slowdown. However, the industry is promising and will bounce back in the next few months. For our clients this is the best possible time to implement Lantek digital factories with wider spectrum of applications. Lantek can offer them to grow digital.
 
The digital revolution/automation or Industry 4.0 is the next significance and the need of the time for the manufacturing industry. We at Lantek have been involved with the digitalization of factories for close a decade and have over 3000 clients with integration solutions of Lantek.
 
Are you seeing growth in demand for your solutions from SMEs - a dominant part of the Indian industry, yet a cost-conscious segment? 
 
Though 30 per cent of our clients are Fortune 500 multinationals, SMEs are apparently where the rest of the clients base and the big portion of our business comes. SMEs are the cost driven and more challenging market and are the growing ones. Since the trend is moving into the smarter factories, they are the biggest potential for us in the coming years.
 
What are some of the emerging trends in your industry? 
 
Many customers have migrated into the digital world of manufacturing excellence. Lantek brings the most unique and user friendly integrations for them to have greater control over planning and process of their factories.
 
What will be your focus at IMTEX Forming 2020?
 
At IMTEX 2020, we are launching our most advanced apparently the world’s best nesting engine. We will also launch Lantek ver. 2020 with most enriched and enhanced features which meets all the requirements.
