Automation & robotics enhance quality: Ezhilmaran Arumugam

Axis Global Automation Group of Companies is celebrating the 10th Anniversary, and at INTEC 2019, its exhibit will focus on customised robotic solutions for applications such as welding, handling and assembling, cobots and turnkey solutions for automotive industries, among others.  There will also be interactive sessions with industrial experts and thought leaders at the ‘Innovation Corner’, that explores the latest trends in the automation and robotics sector, reveals Ezhilmaran Arumugam, Managing Director & Co-Founder, Axis Global Automation Group of Companies.

What are the products & services offered by your company and how do you serve the machine tools industry?
Axis Global Automation Group of Companies is one of India’s leading industrial automation and robotics engineering solutions provider. Established in 2009, Axis Global Automation today is a multi-faceted business group with interests in business domains including industrial automation and robotics system integration, new product development (special purpose machines, customised robotic solutions, etc), Industry 4.0 solutions, industrial IoT and technical training in automation and robotics.

What are trends that are upcoming in the industry? Which are the industries where you see a potential for growth?
Increasing production costs, reduced operational margins, limited scope for expansion or diversification as well as unavailability of skilled manpower are hampering the growth of industries across the globe. Automation and robotics provides an opportunity to enhance the quality, precision, productivity as well as cost-effectiveness of industries. The need of the hour is to choose the right technology that enables the seamless transition of business infrastructure and ensures the achievement of maximum ROI for the technology investment. Automation stands out as the clear choice for industries to achieve business excellence.

Traditionally, the automotive sector has seen maximum adoption of industrial automation and robotics technologies. However, the application of the technology is broad and will be relevant to a range of industries including food & beverage, FMCG, chemical, bio-engineering, energy and power production, and other process and product industries.

How are you planning to capitalise INTEC 2019 as a platform?
INTEC is one of the best forums for machine tools and other industrial technologies in the country. We are sure that this year’s event will surpass that of the previous years. We are hoping to witness participation from more international end users in INTEC 2019.

How is the industry and the government working together to push the machine tools sector?
Government of India has come up with schemes such as Make in India that push for localised manufacturing. Skill India initiatives including Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, National Skill Development Mission etc., aim to impart world-class education for the youth of the nation. Industrial bodies as well as top companies are working in tandem with the Government of India to promote industrial development in the country.

Can you tell us about some of the emerging trends in the machine tools sector?
Some of the emerging trends in the sector include, artificial intelligence, digital twins, cloud and edge solutions, augmented and virtual reality, Big Data and industrial IoT, cybersecurity, sustainable manufacturing processes (3D printing) and Industry 4.0.

Are you going to launch any new technology or application at the INTEC 2019? If yes, what are they?
Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of Axis Global Automation Group of Companies, our exhibit at INTEC 2019 will be focused on customised robotic solutions for applications such as welding, handling and assembling, palletising, laser cutting, painting, machine tending, human collaborative robots/cobots and turnkey solutions for automotive industries, FB/FMCG and other manufacturing and product/process industries. We will also emphasise on Industry 4.0 solutions, AI, virtual, mixed and augmented reality and industrial IIoT.

We have scheduled real-time live demos of Yaskawa Motoman Robots for a host of industrial applications such as welding and handling as well as the Yaskawa Educational Robot. There will also be interactive sessions with industrial experts and thought leaders at the ‘Innovation Corner’ of our exhibit that explores the latest trends in the automation and robotics sector.

What are your expectations from INTEC 2019?
We hope that this year’s event will be a forum to create awareness of technologies of the future as well as enable the expansion of business boundaries to usher in growth and excellence for industries across the globe.
