Thermax Bags Rs 503 cr EPC Order

Pune-based energy and environment management firm Thermax announced that it has bagged a Rs 503-crore order from a leading public sector firm for setting up a captive power plant for its new 3 million tonnes per annum integrated steel plant in central India. "Thermax will design, engineer, construct and commission the project on a turnkey basis. The supply of equipment includes three 160 tonnes per hour capacity (3x160 TPH) boilers that use multiple fuels - blast furnace and coke oven gas from the steel process and light diesel oil - and two 40 MW each steam turbines," it said in a statement.

The order also includes water demineraliser plant, cooling water system, air-conditioning and ventilation system, the company added. "The award of this contract is another testimony to Thermax's ability to configure a complex energy solution at an economical cost. We won it against competition from both domestic and international players," said M S Unnikrishnan, Managing Director and CEO, Thermax. Till date, Thermax has contracted over 75 power projects on turnkey basis till date. The projects were based on various fuels, including domestic and imported coal, washery rejects, petcoke, waste heat from various processes and renewable energy such as biomass and solar, the statement further said.
