TCD machine enhances die life

Purvi Products has innovated the new Diemo Surgeon-25, a fully electronic solution for tungsten carbide coating on moulds and dies, with an aim to reduce flashing and thus to enhance life of plastic moulds. The Tungsten Carbide Deposition (TCD) machine is able to apply a layer up to 25 microns thickness on functional wear prone surface.

New moulds have sharp edges, so one does not get flesh at parting line and butting area. However, after production of few thousand pieces, the sharp ages are rounded-off due to surface wear and this results into flashes. The tungsten carbide layer applied through Diemo Surgeon-25 prevents wear and thus the die life is enhanced.

Moreover, the other key features of this machine such as low power consumption of 230 V AC, portable in size, light in weight with 8 kg, and above all less training required to operate makes this machine a much sought after product in plastic moulding and die-casting.

Speaking about this innovation, Mr Dinesh Patel said: “I have been into electroless nickel plating for corrosion and wear resistance coating for dies and moulds since last 25 years. However, I sensed the demand for such machine in plastic moulding segment to increase die life, so thought of making such a machine that can easily enable tungsten carbide on plastic moulds and dies. Tungsten carbide is the hardest material can be used as an anti-wear material on hard surface, which offers up to 72 HRC.”

The company is hopeful of getting orders from many of its regular customers, to which it offers plating services. “In each industrial estate- big or small in size- even if one customer comes up with job work of applying TC coating on moulds and dies, there is a huge market in India,” noted Patel. There are number of application of this novel equipment. Industrial tools and components life can be increased with this coating.
