Tata Advanced Systems, Satellogic forge partnership for satellite development

Tata Advanced Systems announced a strategic collaboration with Satellogic Inc to foster the development of indigenous space technology capabilities in India. The partnership signifies Tata Advanced Systems Ltd's inaugural foray into the satellite domain as part of its broader satellite strategy. Satellogic, recognised for its leadership in sub-metre resolution Earth Observation (EO) data collection, views this collaboration as a significant milestone as it ventures into the rapidly expanding Indian defense and commercial market.

Under the collaboration, TASL and Satellogic will jointly embark on designing a new satellite and collaborate on integrating multiple payloads onto a single satellite. This integrated approach aims to generate a diverse array of data covering India. The initial phase of the project will involve extensive training, knowledge transfer, and the local assembly of optical sub-metre resolution EO satellites. The first satellite, designated TSAT-1A, is slated for launch.

The primary focus of the collaboration will be on the local manufacturing of satellites and the development of imagery in India. To support these endeavours, TASL is in the process of establishing a satellite Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) plant at its Vemagal facility in Karnataka. The objective is to contribute to national defence and commercial applications.

Sukaran Singh, CEO and Managing Director of TASL, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, citing Satellogic's exemplary technology and entrepreneurial mindset. Additionally, TASL aims to engage local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for the procurement of payloads and other technologies, thereby enhancing the indigenous content in the project.

Emiliano Kargieman, CEO and Founder of Satellogic, highlighted the collaboration's potential to expedite space capacity building for one of the world's largest nations. The overarching goal is to advance commercial space capabilities and facilitate broader access to critical information, benefiting applications such as security, sustainability, and energy.

This collaboration marks a pivotal moment for Satellogic, representing its second space systems customer, following a prior agreement with an international space agency, as stated in the official announcement.
