Synopsys opens new Bengaluru R&D facility; celebrates 30 years in India

Synopsys Inc, a global leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, celebrated 30 years of operations in India with the inauguration of a new research and development facility in Bengaluru. Synopsys president and CEO Sassine Ghazi and executive chair and founder Dr Aart de Geus attended the opening at Bagmane Capital. Spanning more than 455,000 square feet, the facility offered advanced R&D in EDA, semiconductor IP, verification, and system design, enabling global and regional customers to accelerate next-generation technologies. Ghazi highlighted the importance of India, where Synopsys operated across seven cities, including offices of recently acquired simulation and analysis leader Ansys.

“India had been central to the Synopsys story for three decades,” said Ghazi. “From our first R&D centre in Bengaluru to the thriving network of engineers and partners here, India became an essential hub for innovation and talent. As India built its semiconductor future, Synopsys provided silicon-to-systems design solutions to help R&D teams realise their innovations.”

30 years of Synopsys in India
Synopsys commenced India operations in 1995 with its Bengaluru R&D centre, followed by a field organisation in 1997. Around one-third of Synopsys’ global workforce was based in India, most in engineering. From supporting semiconductor manufacturing to advancing automotive, AI, and next-generation computing, Synopsys’ India teams contributed to solving the industry’s most complex challenges.

Over three decades, Synopsys played a vital role in advancing India’s semiconductor and technology ecosystem. The company collaborated with more than 100 global and regional organisations, including major semiconductor design centres, AI startups, and regional manufacturers, helping them accelerate innovation with greater efficiency.

Integration of Ansys
This milestone followed Synopsys’ acquisition of Ansys in July 2025. The deal combined leaders in silicon design, IP, simulation, and analysis, expanding Synopsys’ total addressable market to $ 31 billion. It accelerated Synopsys’ strategy to deliver advanced engineering solutions for the AI era through multiphysics simulation integrated with the full EDA stack.

With Ansys’ predictive simulation technologies, engineers in sectors such as semiconductors, automotive, aerospace, industrial, and healthcare could innovate faster, reduce time-to-market, and enhance product performance. Synopsys planned to deliver its first set of integrated solutions in the first half of 2026.

As India pursued its semiconductor ambitions, Synopsys continued to serve as a mission-critical enabler and trusted advisor. The new Bengaluru facility reinforced its commitment to nurturing India as a global innovation hub while leveraging the Ansys integration to reimagine engineering from silicon to systems.
