Tata Electronics Pvt. Ltd.'s new semiconductor plant in Assam, valued at Rs 270 billion, is set to become operational in 2025, announced N Chandrasekaran, Chariman, Tata Sons. Speaking at the Bhumi Pujan ceremony for the chip plant, Chandrasekaran highlighted that the facility has already employed 1,000 people from Assam. As the plant expands, it will encompass the entire semiconductor ecosystem.

"We are trying to accelerate the building of this factory. We hope sometime in 2025, we will be able to complete this facility and quickly start operations," Chandrasekaran stated.

The chip plant is part of the Prime Minister's ‘Act East Policy’ and is projected to generate 15,000 direct and 11,000-13,000 indirect jobs, according to Union Minister of Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw. The plant will produce 48.3 million chips per day using indigenously developed technologies, critical for key applications in automotive, communications, and other sectors.
Three major technologies will be deployed in this plant, all developed in India. Chandrasekaran mentioned that other semiconductor ecosystem companies will initially start as suppliers but will gradually establish their units in the country.

The ceremony was also attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who described it as a "golden day" for the people of Assam. He emphasized that the facility would drive industrial development in the state, creating employment opportunities for the youth.
"The setting up of this facility will herald industrial development in the state leading to employment opportunities for the youth," Sarma said after the Bhumi Pujan of the facility at Jagiroad in Morigaon district of Assam.

Sarma attributed the success of this initiative to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
