Rosmerta Technologies, a pioneering automobile technology and automation firm, has unveiled ambitious plans to invest Rs 200 crore in establishing ten state-of-the-art vehicle scrappage units across India over the next three years. This significant expansion comes in the wake of the company's existing facility in Manesar (Haryana), capable of processing 30,000 vehicles annually, and the newly proposed centers will augment the company's capacity to process an impressive 3 lakh vehicles per year.
Kartick Nagpal, President of Rosmerta Technologies, highlighted the company's vision during an interview with PTI. He emphasised that these scrappage centers represent a pivotal step towards contributing to the circular economy by recycling a staggering three lakh vehicles annually. Nagpal expressed the company's commitment to invest INR 200 crore nationwide to fortify this initiative, underlining the vital role it plays in sustainable practices and circular economy principles.
The central government has championed this initiative, recognising the substantial benefits it brings. By utilising materials from scrapped vehicles, there is an estimated 33% reduction in raw material costs, significantly decreasing dependence on imported metals like aluminum, copper, and rubber. India, as the fourth-largest producer of passenger vehicles and the sixth-largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles globally, imports metals worth $34.7 billion annually.
This move aligns with the national vehicle scrappage policy, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2021. The policy aims to phase out unfit and polluting vehicles, encouraging the adoption of new, eco-friendly ones while fostering a circular economy. Despite government incentives for scrapping old vehicles, it is estimated that over 50 lakh light motor vehicles, aged over 50 years, continue to operate without regulation.
Rosmerta Technologies, renowned as the leading manufacturer of high-security registration plates (HSRP) in the country, is also actively engaged in intelligent transport management systems, automated testing stations, and automated driving testing tracks. Through these initiatives, the company stands at the forefront of technological advancements, driving India towards a more sustainable automotive future.
