Production discontinued at Konica Minolta subsidiary-WUXI in China

As part of its medium-term business plan, Konica Minolta has been advancing its manufacturing strategy within its business technologies segment, which includes the digital workplace and professional print units, to enhance profitability and build a supply system capable of swiftly responding to environmental changes. After a thorough review of its production system in the Asian region, considering factors like stable supply and production efficiency, the company has decided to cease operations at its Konica Minolta WUXI subsidiary.

Konica Minolta began manufacturing in China with the establishment of a facility in Dongguan in 1994, followed by the founding of Konica Minolta WUXI in 2004 to capitalise on market growth. Both facilities became central to the global production of the company's business technology products after technology was transferred from Japan. To mitigate the risks associated with concentrating production in a single country, the company established a manufacturing subsidiary in Malaysia in 2014 and later transferred part of the professional print machine production back to Japan in 2022. These moves were part of a broader effort to develop a global supply network with diversified sources and routes.

Following the recent decision, Konica Minolta plans to end manufacturing activities at the WUXI facility during the first half of 2025. Production from WUXI will be transferred to other company-owned bases in Malaysia, Japan, and Dongguan, China, ensuring a stable supply of products while optimising the production system and further enhancing profitability within the business technologies segment.
