Phoenix Compounding Technology Expands Compound Database

Phoenix Compounding Technology GmbH, which belongs to the technology company ContiTech, supplies compounds worldwide - in any colour, using a standard formula or customized, and made of rubber or silicon. At the German Rubber Conference, which takes place from July 2 to 5, 2012 in Nuremberg, Germany (booth 12-217), the leading specialist in the development and manufacture of rubber compounds will be showcasing its expanded online database of 400 compounds. In addition, the focus will be on the expanded production capacity in Hamburg and Waltershausen as well as the construction of a new compounding factory in Hungary.

On July 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the Nuremberg Convention Center, Klaus-Wolfgang Jacobsen, compound developer at Phoenix Compounding Technology, will give a presentation about which measures the rubber industry has so far taken to address the issue of sustainability and what it plans to do in the future. The presentation will be entitled "The Rubber Industry - Sustainability Since 1839".

With around 780 employees, the company produces more than 150,000 tonnes of finished compound every year at locations in Hamburg-Harburg and Waltershausen in Thuringia. The standard range alone is composed of around 700 formulas for elastomer-based compounds (EPDM, SBR, NR, NBR, CR, silicon, AEM, ACM, ECO, FKM). Customers can search through more than 400 compounds in the online database, which has been expanded again in the run-up to the German Rubber Conference and can be found at www.phoenix-compounding.eu. Thanks to its enormous process know-how, Phoenix Compounding Technology can produce natural and synthetic rubber compounds not only in black, but also in other colors too. Yellow, green, white, red or beige - it's all possible.

The company specializes in silicon compounds for highly temperature-resistant applications and uses. In response to enormous demand, ContiTech has invested in a new silicon compounder, which is scheduled to enter production in the second half of 2012. In Ny?regyh?za in Hungary, ContiTech is currently constructing a new compounding factory. Commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2012. This new compounding center will create much-needed additional capacity, which will also be externally marketed from this site. At its Hamburg site, ContiTech is expanding its capacity in the manufacture of continuous strips. With a much bigger gear pump extruder than that which is currently in place, it will be possible, as of mid 2012, to manufacture continuous strips of different sizes in a preserving process.

The quality management system in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 serves as the basis for ensuring the best possible quality. The ultra-modern technology used for the stringent in-process inspection guarantees consistent quality throughout. The customer benefits from Phoenix Compounding Technology's decades of experience with a wide-ranging selection of testing options - even outside the area of compound manufacturing.

Wherever possible, only the most environmentally compatible materials are used. The company has been manufacturing solely compounds free of CFCs for years now already. It develops unleaded ECO compounds and DOTG-free types. The data on ingredients is consistently made available in the automotive industry's International Material Data System (IMDS).

Whether with regard to compound development, manufacturing or testing technology, Phoenix Compounding Technology benefits in every aspect from its integration in the Continental Corporation. The regular exchange of information allows the compound developers to profit from an enormous stock of experience and unique material know-how. All of this will be a topic in Nuremberg.
