Nextracker, a leading solar tracker and software solutions company, announced that it has secured contracts for manufacturing capacity of 10 gigawatts (GW) annually in India. This strategic move aligns with the company's focus on delivering cutting-edge solar tracker technology solutions sourced locally, thereby enhancing power generation as India accelerates the construction of new solar parks.
The company has firmly established its footprint in India's dynamic renewable energy sector, boasting over 5 GW of systems either under fulfilment or in operation, as stated by Nextracker?s founder and CEO, Dan Shugar, during a press briefing.
With India's shift away from coal-based power and its ambitious target of achieving over 64% non-fossil fuel-based capacity by 2030, Nextracker is dedicated to providing high-performance solar power systems to support the nation's objectives related to domestic content and decarbonisation. Shugar emphasised the company's commitment to aiding customers and advancing India?s goals in the transition to renewable energy sources.
In line with the government's Make in India initiative, Nextracker is manufacturing its solar tracker systems with more than 80% domestic content, specifically for utility-scale power generation projects in India. The company's strong local presence is evidenced by its collaboration with 11 manufacturing suppliers, operating in 13 factories across India. This collaboration has led to the creation of approximately 2,000 clean energy jobs, with over 200 employees working for Nextracker India.
To produce solar power trackers in India, Nextracker has engaged contract manufacturers. These innovative trackers enable solar panels in large-scale power plants to follow the sun's movement across the sky, optimising the overall performance of the plant and maximising energy generation.
