National Conference on Process Safety

The International Society of Automation (ISA) is organizing a National Conference on Process Safety, with the theme 'Protecting People and Assets in Process Automation Environment', on 5th December 2014 at Hotel JW Marriot, Bangalore.

Process safety and preventing catastrophic accidents is a critical concern for all manufacturing and process plants. Safety in process industries, no doubt, should be given top most priority. Process Safety is all about "Understanding, Preventing and Mitigating Risks associated with automated process plants".

Process industries, which include chemical, petrochemical, oil & gas, refinery, pharmaceutical plants has hazardous area containing (or likely to contain) an ignitable concentration of flammable gas, vapour or dust where an electric spark or a hot object can cause an explosion. It is necessary to do "Risk Analysis" at early design stage of the project and take appropriate actions to reduce "Risk" to acceptable levels. Another cause of damage to equipment is due to surges, either due to lightning strikes or due to other means.

Evaluation of such risk and taking suitable protective measures can ensure safe operation of plant. ISA/IEC/BIS standards define requirement for design, manufacturing, testing, installation, operation and maintenance of electrical/electronic/electronic programmable equipment, instruments and automation systems.

International Society of Automation (ISA) is a world leader defining safety standards, technologies and procedures that can identify and mitigate safety hazards in industrial environments. This one-day conference aims to bring together Regulatory Organizations, Testing Labs, Technology Providers, Consultants, Manufacturers and End Users. The objective of the conference is to discuss various aspects of Process Safety. It will have key note addresses by industry experts with technical sessions on:

  • Applicable Standards: There has been tremendous learning in Process industry across the world. There are various international and national bodies that actively study and suggest implementation of modern systems to ensure safety in plants to cover both local statutory regulations and relevant technical standards
  • Product Design, System Design and Solutions: Application of products to a deep appreciation of the process. The technology provider, consultants, vendors and end customers need to have better engagement right from pre-bid stage, and
  • Life Cycle Management (Operation & Maintenance): A process safety system once installed needs to be maintained by trained personnel; through life cycle
