During the EMO 2015 in Milan, the online industrial fair DirectIndustry bestowed the i-NOVO Award for the first time. In the design category, Schaudt Mikrosa GmbH won the award with the centreless external cylindrical grinding machine KRONOS S 250.

The award was bestowed on MIKROSA for the ground-breaking machine design of the highly-productive centreless grinding machine KRONOS S 250, in which design and functionality complement each other and stand for innovation and progress. The machine is perfectly designed for high-volume production in the high-precision segment and for the plunge and throughfeed grinding of workpieces in the diameter range of 1.5 to 35 mm, and is constructed with a plunge grind width of up to 245 mm.

The KRONOS S 250’s new design is geared systematically towards ergonomy and user-friendliness. The control panel, for example, has quick and simple height adjustment. This means that the operator can adapt it to his own needs and thereby avert potential postural defects.

The machine’s sliding doors, which can be opened wide, are equipped with ergonomic door handles featuring an adjusted grip profile. These ensure extensive, maintenance-friendly access to the grinding area and thereby offer a crucial advantage as far as setting up the machine is concerned. However, the optimised internal lighting and the large inspection windows ensure a better overview and more operating comfort during the grinding process as well.

To simplify the cleaning process, the machine’s surface structures were improved and the materials used were optimised. The area intended for the feet in the KRONOS S 250’s operating area was expanded considerably. This gives the operator more room to move and, above all, better access to the working area. All of the machine’s connections were consolidated sensibly with the aim of carrying out any possible maintenance and service assignments more quickly and efficiently.

The centreless external cylindrical grinding machine is fitted with a multi-coloured signal light with an integrated flash function, thereby providing optimum status visibility. Centrally placed customer care information panels with clearly structured contact information help to find the right contact person quickly in the event of service assignments. With its compact casing, the machine corresponds to the most stringent environmental requirements, with the result that a wide range of cooling agents such as emulsion or grinding oil can be used.

Taken together, these many improvements provide a modern, innovative machine design whose purpose is certainly not just to look good. The motivation that drives the Leipzig-based company is, above all,, to make the machine operators‘ day-to-day work easier! For that will create the basis for greater efficiency and success.
