Lapp India receives ISO 14001: 2004 certification

Bangalore March 17th 2016 – Lapp India, a 100% subsidiary of the Lapp Group, Germany and a leading supplier of integrated solutions and branded products in the field of cable and connection technology in India has received ISO 14001: 2004 certification from TUV Rheinland.

ISO 14001: 2004 sets out the criteria for an environmental management system and can be certified to. It maps out a framework that a company or organisation can follow to set up an effective environmental management system. It can be used by any organisation regardless of its activity or sector. Using ISO 14001:2004 can provide assurance to company management and employees as well as external stakeholders that environmental impact is being measured and improved.

The certification has been awarded to Lapp India for successfully implementing and incorporating international standards of Environment Management System (EMS) initiative as its corporate way of life. As a responsible corporate citizen, Lapp India provides assurance to employees, company management and other stakeholders that the environmental activities are being measured and improved. Going forward, the company will invest in further measures in providing a healthy social and occupational environment for its employees, customers, vendors and the society at large.

“This Certification is a milestone achievement for Lapp India and reflects Company’s long-term commitment in achieving our environmental responsibilities. Conformance to International Standards will instil confidence in our customers, of our products’ safety, reliability and quality. Attaining standards such as ISO 14001 will enable us to formalize energy management within our own operations,” said Mr Marc Jarrault, MD, LAPP India.

Cables are an integral part of our homes, offices, public space and industries. To avoid mishaps and accidents, Lapp cables are coated with a unique thermal compound and are halogen-free which ensures 80% visibility during a fire outbreak. These cables generate less smoke with low generation of corrosive and toxic gasses. Its low fire propagation characteristics ensure a safe evacuation process during emergency situations.

Lapp India is committed towards improving its environmental performance and strives to improve energy efficiency. As part of its commitment towards sustainable green environment, the company manufactures environmentally-friendly products such as HFFR single core (UNIPLUS HFFR and INFRA HFFR), HFFR multi core flexible cables and Fire Survival Cables. A performance program is in place that minimizes scrap of copper and compound during manufacturing. We also focus on efficient waste segregation at source and disposal, including STP (sewage treatment plan) Lapp India is actively contributing to renewable energy by committing to install 1/3 of solar capacity and supplying extensively to wind mills.

The organisation has undergone a meticulous procedure for implementing a gamut of awareness drives for imparting EMS related training to its employees and vendor partners. Adhering to an extensive assessment procedure, Lapp India has raised the bar for health, safety, security and environment in the wire and cable industry.

During this Certification process, Lapp India employees were given the opportunity to understand how their work affects the environment, and to develop practices and technologies that improves environmental health.
